UK ranked second worst in western Europe for LGBT+ laws

1. For those curious, but lazy, the worst country is Italy, while five best ones are Malta, Belgium, Iceland, Denmark and Spain.

   And yeah, the recent woman definition law, as well as Labour generally adopting anti-trans rhetoric, played a huge role in the plummeting scores.

2. It’s kind of impressive how for a country whose rhetoric against immigration is due to “incompatible culture” they end up behaving almost no differently from the type of immigrants they dislike.

   Seems to me the problem with immigration they had was incompatible race and not culture if they are gonna regress more on LGBT rights.

   Europe better pay attention to the fact that the biggest dangers to their values they preach so much aren’t immigrants but their own native people who display values antithetical to what cherish. If they chose to blatantly ignore this then it’s clear that it was never really about the societal value problem they had with some immigrants but their ethnicity and would happily adopt those values if they felt needed, just with a “racially pure” Europe in their mind.

   And to the gay Germans who voted for AfD thinking they are gonna protect them from anti-LGBT immigrants i would suggest reading the “first they came for” speech to understand that AfD will never protect you and will quickly move to oppress you when the situation is right. You are just a stick used to beat on immigrants and will be tossed aside when your usefulness has run out.

Honestly when we come out of the EHRC and workers rights get rescinded, lesbian and gay rights get rescinded, the writing was on the wall, you could have stopped this right wing populism momentum, instead you believed it wasn’t gonna happen to you. Tale as old as time really, those who fail to remember history, yadda yadda, it’s kinda obvious it’s gonna get worse for the whole LGBT community and not just the T, the T is the starting point 

4. This ranking is honestly braindead if it truly has the UK as somehow worse for LGBT rights than Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Serbia, Bulgaria, Romania, Georgia, Armenia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Hungary, etc. Typical American/Western European exceptionalism.

To be fair, the only reason for the position is due to the fact that the UK wrote into law the Equality Act 2010, which has comprehensive protections for protected characteristics, namely: age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation.

   While transgender people are protected under the “gender reassignment” protected characteristic, the “sex” clause is only applicable to biological women. This coincides with the scientific and sociology-cultural distinction between sex and gender, namely while the former refers to biological sex, the latter refers to the social construct.

   In practice, the law provides a lot of protections for transgender people, but what it does not is to equate gender with sex, and therefore transgender women cannot claim protections for both “gender reassignment” clause and “sex” clause.

6. UK is genuinely worse for LGBT people than Eastern Europe at this point, with legal discrimination creeping up on par with Russia.

   That’s what happens when a state tries to manufacture a distraction from real issues and isn’t afraid to kill people while doing so, how this island of trash is still being called democratic is beyond me
