China boosted its total solar power capacity by over 40% in the first quarter of 2025.

The country—responsible for a third of global energy demand—added 59.71 GW of new solar in just the first three months of the year.

As of 2024, clean energy sources made up 38% of China’s electricity mix, with hydropower leading at 13%.

  1. China had 888GW installed solar capacity by end-2024.

    So China increased total solar capacity by 7% (which is impressive in itself) in Q1 2025, *not* 43% .

    Also, Q1 2024, China deployed 45GW of solar, so Q1 2025 is a 30% YoY growt.

  2. 40 % seems far off. China had >800 GW installed by end of last year.

  3. The numbers do not make sense by themselves and compared to other sources. Please post accurate information.
