British volunteers in Ukraine fail to make it past basic training

1. A front-line commander has revealed that some British volunteers are failing to pass basic training for the Ukrainian military.

   Wannabe fighters from the UK have been joining the fight against Vladimir Putin’s army in numbers since the full-scale invasion of 2022.

   However, some of those choosing to travel east are struggling when the reality of frontline warfare kicks in.

   According to Lt Col Roman Myrnyi of the Khartia Brigade, who oversees several battalions of foreign fighters, there had been good and bad experiences with British volunteers.

   “Some of the Brits who came over to fight have not made it past basic training, but others are strong and willing,” he told the Express.

   “We currently have one Englishman who leads by example. He shows discipline, endurance and it’s very nice to work with him. He understands immediately and does not need things explained 10 times over. I can see him becoming a sergeant.”

2. Heh. How weak they must be if Ukrainian 50+ old forcefully mobilized men are all able to pass that training?

3. That’s not exactly newsworthy. In any selection of recruits in any country, there will be a lot of unfit candidates amongst volunteers. Especially if the concerned army is at war and can’t afford to choose the wrong people for the job. Completely normal.

4. Seen this headline passed around every rag in the country today.

   Actually reading what he said, some Brits make it through and some fail. No shit? That’s what basic training is for.

   At no point does he suggest Brits are generally better or worse than other foreign volunteers. Nothing article designed to get a reaction.

5. Any journalists pedalling this bollocks needs theirs cut off to make a point about context, have them seasoned, fried and make their sincere apologies whilst chewing.

Because a lot of these right wing rags writing this expect Brits to be some sort of super race that conquers the world, and when normal things like some not passing basic training happen they can scream about losing their country and how it was better during the Empire and we’ve all become soft and woke

7. I’m almost 58. I can meet the Legion standards, I can’t meet the Third Azov’s two mile run times. My point is, before you jump on a fracking plane to a war zone you should know if you can hack the basic training.
