FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) – The Allen County Public Library (ACPL) now has another early learning space.
On Wednesday, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at the library’s Little Turtle branch for the grand opening of its newest StoryScape.
According to ACPL, the Little Turtle branch’s StoryScape location builds on the success of similar spaces at the Main Library and Pontiac and Woodburn branches.
The space is custom-designed and features hands-on learning tools and library materials to encourage young children to read, sing, write, talk, and play.
Some of the main features include a miniature greenhouse, climb-on tractor, a play potting station, a market stand, soft seating, and fun features that create the feel of a garden with a farmer’s market.
Library leaders say the theme complements the popular ‘Seed Library’ housed at the Little Turtle branch that provides free access to seeds for ACPL patrons.
“StoryScape is laying a critical literacy foundation in our community. For children, learning and play are one and the same. These spaces foster that play and create an environment where can connect around books and learning,” said ACPL Youth Services Manager Jacki Fulwood. “With each new StoryScape we open, we make our vast collection of children’s materials even more accessible – and fun – for our youngest readers!”
The library says the addition of StoryScapes is part of the ACPL’s 2024-28 strategic plan, “Allen County’s Windows to Lifelong Learning and Discovery,” and is planned for all ACPL locations.
Currently, planning is underway for the Grabill, Monroeville, and Waynedale StoryScape installations.
StoryScapes are free and open during normal library hours.
