Military conscription under consideration in the Netherlands

  1. Russian conscript showed the way. Unexperienced with no moral soldiers are useless. Are the NL not aware of the ukrainian war ?

  2. Would be great and achieve:
    1. Teach young adults hierarchy and respect
    2. Fix NATO spend
    3. Upgrade army

  3. No its not and that website is not even a real or well known news website here in the Netherlands.

  4. In Europe Netherlands have the lowest willingness to protect their country, they are too soft for a conscription and would probably start a riot

  5. I feel like the netherlands if they do military conscription should do so with focus on cyber security and logistics. Support countries in those manners so the enemy doesnt get here in the first place.

Doubt a dutch army in the regular sense could ever be anything more than symbolic.

  6. Never gonna happen and if it is, I’m not gonna fight for a country I can’t buy a house in lmao

  7. >State Secretary Christophe van der Maat (Defense) wants to increase enthusiasm for the armed forces through a type of conscription. He is looking particularly at how Sweden and Norway recruit candidates for their militaries.

    >Since 2018, Sweden has selected 4,000 young people every year to voluntarily join the army. They receive basic training for 11 months, after which they remain on call. Norway uses a survey to determine which 18-year-olds are motivated to serve and then recruits 7,500 soldiers from them per year.

This… is simply not what ‘conscription’ means, at all. In fact this is just voluntary enlistment, which is kinda the opposite of conscription.

  8. The proposition on the table which hopes to emulate Swedish and Norwegian military recruitment is not conscription. This is pure click bait.

  9. The article says that you can volunteer to answer your conscription and go through basic training for 11 months and after that you’ll be on call to mobilize when neccisary.

  10. Conscription is really outdated, especially for most of Europe.

We have no real threats to us in close proximity, and the big 7 EU/NATO countries (Germany, UK, France, Italy, Spain, Poland, Netherlands) roughly have 950,000 active soldiers (just behind Russia) and a further +300,000 reservists.
