Hi. I hope you all having a wonderful day. I use always to buy eggs from yalla for example since it's cheaper. But a friend of mine told me you should start getting a better eggs. I was what? He said there is those numbers from 1-3 it show you the quality of eggs. I know number 1 best quality since it's free cage. Unfortunately I didn't find many options number 1 in all market but so many are LUOMU. I wonder what is the difference between number 1 and the luomu one ? Which one better or more healthy? Where can I find more options like number 1.

Thank you all

  1. “Better” is a subjective thing. Just buy whatever you like. There is no nutritional benefit either way.

  2. 0 means organic, 1 free range etc.: https://www.k-ruoka.fi/artikkelit/nain-onnistut/pieni-munaopas.

A big difference is how much space the chicken have and in what kind of conditions they live. “Free range” (or 1 – ulkokanala) doesn’t actually mean the chicken live outdoors, they can be indoors for 16 weeks in a row.

  3. The main difference is in animal welfare. *Luomu* means organic, and some consumers believe organic products are healthier, but many also buy luomu eggs because they have the strictest rules for wellbeing of the hens (free range and fewest hens per square meter).

As sad as it is, free-range hens are not allowed outdoors without a roof due to the bird flu in wild birds.

  4. Luomu eggs (code 0) are the best, they are organic fed and the hens roam free, and also have a rooster among them (it keeps discipline among the hens so there is less fighting). Fun fact, if you keep the luomu eggs in suitable conditions they (or some of them, if you are lucky) will hatch and produce chicks.

  5. Does luomo+ mean anything? Is it better than luomo?

  6. When you buy eggs in Finland, they are not washed before packing. They keep better that way, but it is recommended that you wash your hands after handling the eggs.

  7. The first number of the code printed on the egg should be a 0

  8. I pay the premium of organic eggs because of better conditions for the animals. For me that is the price of eggs and if I feel like it is too expensive, I have to eat less eggs.
