Ukraine, net zero and new technology revive nuclear energy prospects – but don’t expect it to power up for at least 10 years

  1. 10 years is the amount of time it takes to get a nuclear plant to start producing power in a stable country it’s gonna be far longer considering Ukraine’s currently being invaded

  2. Nuclear could be amazing. But we have to pay 1000bn and wait 30 years to find out. And the last few times people did that, it turned out to be shit.

  3. I’ve been loading up on rolls-royce shares due to this as they will likely get the contracts to build the stations. Rolls-royce is also super cheap right now.

  4. The best time to plant a tomacco field is 10 years ago. The second best time is now.

Seriously though nuclear is great, I hope we reopen our nuclear sector and its a small crime how it has been allowed to collapse the way it has. However a proper nuclear industry require state and private collaboration on the kind of scale we see in France. It requires a serious long-term strategy with tens to hundreds of billions available in capital. As much as I would like to see it, I don’t believe we are capable of electing a government serious enough to be capable of doing this without just turning into a farce like Hinkley C.
