I mean we’re literally seeing a $400million dollar open bribe, it ain’t the ol’ USA anymore.
It’s hard to keep people who can afford it from visiting the US. The US has great academic conferences, cities with all sorts of corporate offices, warm weather, beaches, cold weather attractions, trade shows, infrastructure, all the things tourists and business people want and need.
The problem, outside of the rare chance you get harassed by CBP, is that if the US continues to see visitors, its leadership and the people who support their government, face no consequences. They do not CARE if you visit the US. So, you shouldn’t visit the US. There are plenty of places that want you to come visit and spend money and tell the story of their culture and history to other potential tourists. There are other countries that are more open for business.
But it’s hard to ween yourself off that McDonald’s, Apple, Yellowstone, Yosemite, Disneyland, Bourbon Street, Fulton Fish Market mang.
The dumbest % of the US population is gonna cheer for this.
Does anyone really care? I can’t imagine why anyone (especially from the developed world) would ever want to go there for liesure. I have to go there every year for work and I dread it every time. I’ve been all over that place and it’s really not nice. Poor quality of life, bad infrastructure, obnoxious selfish people, low quality and overpriced food, everything is so far away making everything a challenge, etc…. It feels like stepping into Idiocracy when you go there. I just don’t get why anyone would care about this. lol
Yeah i mean why would you go if you might randomly get turned around and made to buy a ticket home. Its way to risky and done 100% on a random workers discretion
When I worked with the State Department and DoD, I regularly read their travel warnings and remember thinking *thank god I don’t live in those shitty countries*.
Well, we’ve become one of those shitty countries where foreign nationals fear visiting because they may face arbitrary arrest and deportation.
We were once the land of dreams, now we’ve become the nightmare for many.
The USA is a hostile military dictatorship that’s rapidly devolving into a third world country, why would we want our citizens to ever go there?
Would be like going to visit 1938 Germany. Not interested.
The informal warnings were going around by word of mouth long before DFAT updated their travel warnings. Unless people have a family emergency over there, no one wants to go in the first place.
Rightly so.
Just remember all these cheeky remarks are coming to you from the country that has been locking up legitimate asylum seekers in Nauru and PNG since 2001 and Christmas (not a merry one) Island since 2006 and Cambodia since 2014 and even the fucking US since 2016. All of it extensively publicly documented and in direct contravention of the 1951 Refugee Convention they claim to uphold.
The US is a hot mess express at the moment, but even with all of that crazy bullshit, we still have a track record of treating asylum seekers much better than Australia does stretching back quite some years. So they can take their travel warnings and blow them out of their ass.
More important than being deported from the US are the life long travel ramifications of being refused entry from a country even once. When you complete an arrival card for most countries you are asked whether you have ever been deported or refused entry before. If you tick yes you go through more vetting and maybe refused entry again.
Being refused entry to the USA once can lead to visa and border entry problems with other countries for the rest of your life.
Risk is still low. But why risk it at all unless you have to.
As we should… those fuckers are crazy!
> Travel agency Flight Centre says it saw a significant downturn in leisure travel to the US in April and expected the trend to continue in the short-term.
I am an American and I don’t even want to return there to visit.
