  1. By Isabel van Brugen – News Reporter:

Russia’s Vladimir Putin has dodged bilateral peace talks on the war in Ukraine in Turkey on Thursday that he himself proposed, instead opting to send low-level delegates to the country.

The Kremlin said a delegation headed by presidential adviser Vladimir Medinsky would travel to Istanbul for a summit with Ukraine, as pressure mounts to resolve the ongoing war, now in its fourth year.

  2. this implies that there are “high level” delegates that actually have a say in what happens while really it’s just 1 guy.

  3. They’re expendables in case the war crimes people from the Hague turn up perhaps?

  4. I wonder if he’s afraid of what might happen if he leaves the country. Maybe he’ll get back and find they’ve changed the locks?

  5. His offer to talk was only for the show. When his bluf was called he had to come up with a solution. The good thing is: now we know another trick out of his KGB playbook (although he got a bit of help from trump).

  6. Trump is very clearly a Russian asset. He’s sending some low-ass level nobody

Our government is compromised and Russia’s at the wheel

  7. Seriously, a lot of people have a memory of a goldfish. But fine, I will explain again.

Putin wants his demands met, that is his #1 priority.
Putin wants peace, that is his #2 priority.

If his demands are not met, the war will continue. If they are met, there will be no more war. He wants peace, but on his conditions, just like Zelensky wants peace on his conditions.

  8. His chef-cook is dead, his gardener is busy pruning, so Medinsky has to go to Turkey

  9. Starting peace deal talks by insulting the other side before they even get in the room is certainly a move.

Evidentially the end of the war is still a long way off. Still seems to be the case that Putin himself does not want it to end for personal survival reasons but is still under real pressure to end it politically. And so is allowing the illusion of willingness.

Still looks like Russia will not take peace talks seriously until they are already in crisis and either Putin is gone or come to the point of taking any personal long shot he can.

  10. When the delegates turn up with their usual outrageous shopping list of demands and no authority to compromise Putin will spin it as Zelensky being unreasonable. The Tangerine toddler will agree and blame Ukraine. You can see it coming a mile off.

  11. Translation: Putin doesn’t want Russia to be accused of avoiding peace talks, but also doesn’t want peace talks to succeed.
