The Governor of the Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo (CBK), Ahmet Ismaili, paid an official visit to the headquarters of the Bank of France in Paris, where he was received by members of its Board, Emmanuelle Assouan – Director General for Financial Stability and Operations, Laurent Clerc – Deputy Director General for International Economic Affairs, and Elie Lewi – Director of Markets.
At this meeting, the Governor was accompanied by the Ambassador of the Republic of Kosovo to France, Mr. Mehdi Halimi.
During the meeting, Governor Ismaili briefed the senior management of the Bank of France on the latest developments in the financial sector of Kosovo, including the main projects of the CBK aimed at strengthening financial stability, reforming banking supervision, modernizing the payment infrastructure, protecting consumers, and addressing environmental and climate risks. He also presented the progress in the pre-application process for SEPA membership, as well as developments in the project for building a fast payment system in cooperation with the Bank of Italy.
Within the framework of this visit, the Cooperation Agreement was signed between the Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo and the Bank of France for the provision of reserve management services.
This Agreement is the result of preliminary meetings between the two institutions during the 2024 IMF and World Bank Annual Meetings in Washington DC, and the successful completion of preliminary procedures, in line with the objectives of the CBK’s strategic plan for investment diversification.
The parties agreed on the possibility of advancing cooperation in other areas of common importance, including financial stability, financial supervision, and institutional capacity building through experience exchange programs and participation in international networks.
Governor Ismaili thanked for the hospitality and appreciated the continued support of the Bank of France in strengthening the capacities of the CBK, expressing his commitment to deepening this important cooperation.
