    This absurd dialogue is made up. The actual meeting was probably more absurd, in this version of the universe we’re all stuck in.

  12. Operating and maintaining a 747-8 is a major factor

    While many would like a luxury 747, the operating costs are circa $25k *per hour*. A top of the line biz jet – for example G-650 , will be 1/4 of that

    So a transcon (US) flight would be ~ 150k for one way. And a jet of this size limits the airports you can use , compared to a smaller biz jet or smaller commercial jet. Also requires higher landing/ parking fees and hangar space when required

    So the market for this type of plane is very small – even if you can afford the purchase price – it’s just not practical / economical to use

  24. That thing will never be airforce 1. The inspection alone will take more than a year. Planning for conversion, another year +, actual conversion, another 2 years.

    If we’re going to waste the money, then go full malicious compliance. Go through the whole conversion process, then when the asshole is out of office, start the 20 year decomissioning process. He’ll be in the ground before the then completely outdated POS is dumped at the still unfinished construction site that will eventually become his library. Some assembly required, of course.

  38. Just read the article about how it has a longer range and can fly slightly faster, bet all that changes once you add all the extra security hardware that is normally used for air force one. I’m willing to bet it would be less capable than the current air force one once it’s brought up to par.
