  1. Yesterday I shared a post about Péter Magyar setting off on his journey in the name of national unity, after Viktor Orbán betrayed Hungarians beyond the borders by supporting an extremist, anti-Hungarian candidate in the Romanian elections.

    Here’s a little update: two days of the march are now behind him — about 15% of the planned 300 kilometers. Over these past two days, Magyar has visited many small villages, even in regions where support for Fidesz (Orbán’s party) is the strongest — these are considered strongholds of the current regime.

    And yet, people welcomed him warmly even there. Magyar speaks with everyone, listens to their problems, eats and sings with them from morning till night.

    For these people, this means the world. No one has paid attention to them for years — even decades. They’ve been left behind. And now, suddenly, someone shows up who walks with them, marches alongside them, sings with them, and truly listens to their problems.

    Magyar is learning from this — he’s getting to know the people and their struggles more deeply. And for us, it gives reason to hope.

    Many ask whether we trust someone who once stood so close to Fidesz. Well, this walk is a powerful answer: the people are shaping him.

    When he first appeared, many saw him as a bit of an arrogant, privileged golden boy — but that image is light-years away from the man who now chats with a little girl from a minority community about becoming a police officer, eats sour candy with children in a rural village, talks with road workers, and sings with the villagers.
