  1. They got public state and private schools mixed up somehow.

  2. Haven’t heard dustman for ages tbh it’s always binmen

  3. As an American, I say “cashier” and never say “teller” unless im at a bank. There’s a bank teller, and then there’s the cashier at the grocery store

  4. I always heard dustbin man as a kid, now it’s just bin man. The dustman sounds like the one who is bringing me dust, which I could do without more of thank you

  5. I like using lass and lad for my American friends because it’s just fun :>

  6. UK: No thank you, I’m full – USA: No equivalent phrase exists

  7. American who has spent some time in the UK. This list feels like it’s meant to troll both sides of the Atlantic.

Teller is specifically the bank “cashier” though idk anyone who calls them that. ATM = automatic TELLER machine because it automates the teller.

Car parks exist but specifically refer to garages. Parking lots are land lots for parking, no structures. Car parks are garages though Americans usually call them parking garages.

Recess is specifically free time at primary school. I don’t know American who would use it generally as “break time”.

Also pavement is where cars go and sidewalks are where people go along the roads. I feel like that was similar to what my UK friends called things when I was studying in the UK, but could be wrong.

The differentiation on schools is noodling me.

  8. I’m not sure who wrote this, but they probably weren’t British. Dustman is pretty old language, it’s bin man for most people. Teller is used in a bank, cashier in a shop. State school = state school. public school generally means private but not always. Lass and Lad seem pretty regional – they’re known everywhere, but not used enough down south to justify mentioning along side boy and girl.

  9. Got to love the dustman/garbage man thing. Apparently there is no garbage in the UK, but a whole lot of dust. Also, garbage man sounds more like an insult )))

Edit: I thought it was trash man, not garbage man btw. Might be wrong though

  10. In the UK we say “school”, the Americans say “firing range”.

  11. They got the schools wrong. State school is the same in both counties. Public school and private school are both used to mean private school.

  12. Why are public and state comprehensive the wrong way round as well

  13. Surely state school = state school.
Private or public school = private school.

  14. Mate of mine got pulled for speeding while doing Route 66.
    Cop, “license and registration please”.
Mate, “It’s in a bag in my boot officer”.
    Cop, “On the ground asshole”.
    True story, honestly.

  15. This is wrong what Americans call private school we call public school what Americans call public school we call state school

  16. Who tf says dustman, is he a vigilante that refuses to shower

  17. Who the hell calls private schools state schools? Never once heard that.

  18. Americans only call them Tellers at banks, and it’s public or private school. Never heard of state school and I’ve lived here since I was 10.

  19. This list looks like it was made by a poorly trained AI
