  1. You can’t fire someone capable of climbing into a 220k a year nest like you would the 19 year old secretary on such flimsy grounds

    She’ll win that at court.

  2. Pointless article as it lacks details….

She says she wasn’t that drunk

But then she could’t make it back to her hotel room ?

If she collapsed outside her room somewhere its entirely relevant regardless if someone drunk more as clearly they maintained common decency and made it back to their room

A senior exec being so drunk they couldn’t make it to their room would have been talk of the trip

  3. What a shitty article, journalism is at an all-time low isn’t it.

    This made me laugh though:

“Ms Burns is also suing for disability discrimination as she believes her dismissal arose from her ADHD.”

    Of course she has ADHD…

  4. >She explained “tech bro” as a stereotype term referring to “mostly younger white men”, who “embody aggressive, entitled, self-aggrandising, risk takers”.

    >Ms Burns had told a female colleague she felt “overwhelmed and pressured” by the environment soon after starting remotely in January 2023, exacerbating her symptoms of ADHD.

    >The executive said she had started to hear from multiple women that Mr Landgraf had a reputation of being a “tech bro” and that other female executives had highlighted the “problematic male-dominated culture” within the leadership team on “multiple occasions”.

Yeah, she sounds insufferable, everything is someone elses fault. I’m overwhelmed as soon as starting. Its my ADHD, and white people and men. And this other woman who was drunker than me.

Busy 6 months. She’ll win her tribunal, as well she should, you cant just fire someone at that level that easy, but she sounds like an absolute horror to work with, even remotely. For tech jobs theres a good deal of sounding someone out and seeing if they’re a fit in addiction* to competency, and, while the company could obviously lie, the ADHD seems to have only been mentioned after she was struggling with work.

    e:addition*

  5. “The engineer is now suing for discrimination, claiming there is a rampant “tech bro” culture in the “male dominated” firm.”

Lesson for tech bros to hire only fellow tech bros to foster the culture. Don’t hire insufferable bitches.

  6. I’m sorry but what kind of software engineer is in 220k in this country?

  7. > The executive described feeling “admonished for drinking too much” when she had “not had more drinks than most of the rest of the people there that night, including the CEO”.

Drinking the same as a tech bro doesn’t mean you are equally drunk. Tech bros drink a lot and are used to it. The word bro reveals another difference. They are likely taller and bigger than her. They may be party animals yet not so drunk they are out of control.

  8. What a load of bollocks, can’t even get pissed at a work event without someone crying about it.

  9. This just makes me think of the last time my company had an all company event and the founder was utterly bladdered and when the hotel warned us because the Australians were partying in their rooms, we just the most half arsed “don’t do that” known to man.

  10. If you lost your keys and slept in the wrong room, and the CEO didn’t, then actually you were more drunk and it doesn’t matter if he had more drinks than you. That’s way worse than getting a bit shouty and loud.

  11. I once decided to sleep under a transit van in a car park about half a km from home. Simply because I was drunk, it was uphill, and I couldn’t be bothered/didn’t think I’d make it.

Thankfully I woke up and got home in the morning before the van driver woke and left for work.

People make terrible decisions when drunk. And if they are drunk enough, there’s not much thought processing going on, at all.
