Right. So I take this road to work every morning and the number of people who don't understand this junction frustrates me.
Issue 1 is the yellow box. That means don't block the junction. If people would keep it clear when they can't clear the junction traffic would move a lot smoother.
But the more annoying one to me is the fact that people don't understand the big arrow on the road. That arrow is a turn right arrow. That lane has a clear cycle lane that seperates it from the 2 left lanes. That lane is for turning right, not going straight on. If you were meant to go straight on they would have added a straight arrow to the right arrow. If you want to be in the right lane on the straight on path you should be in the middle lane and then filter into the right lane as you exit the yellow box.
Now I appreciate the junction is poorly laid out. The lane markers make it look like the right lane should continue on but the right arrow is a right turn only indicator. Not to mention the presence of the cycle lane there actually makes it pretty unsafe to use that right lane to go straight.

I drive this like every day. I can’t believe I never noticed this.
Ngl drive this one occasionally and still always confuses me. Should really be a straight and right turn makes logical sense to me. Maybe i’m just stupid
How could they not see that huge blue arrow
The majority of the time some ody drives straight, and then they have the cheek to beep their horn at the car thye nearly cause a collision with.
I would have to confess to being guilty of this a time or two way back when I drove it every day. I knew exactly what I was doing… and that was just trying to sneak through the lights. That’s probably a nonsense because you’re just into the never-ending sequence on Victoria Street anyway.
I’d never horn at anybody – I know I’m in the wrong. It is an utterly horrendous junction, though.
Always found this wee bit dead slippy, like if you’re stopped at the lights at the circle and go to take off your wheels will spin at 10 mph.
That right lane is literally the only way to be able to turn right there, also there’s a vague but real curve worn into the paint on the green box, and the tarmac underneath, from all the cars that have used it since it was last painted/resurfaced, just in case you missed the big white arrow.
The gross junction is actually on the other side of that bridge the right turn leads to, when you have the Albert and Castlereagh Street very close to the turn off for the Woodstock, with the exit from short strand to the right. It’s a genuine pain in the arse and I always get it wrong :p
If people are constantly getting it wrong then it means it is badly laid out and not clearly signposted enough.
Any solution that relies on the idea that “if people would just do it properly” is not a good solution. You need to design it based on the shit people do not what they ‘should’ do
I knew this but have always disregarded it cos commuter traffic is war baby
Rarely ever going that way these days tho, so I’m probably not yer culprit
In people’s defense this junction is a mess and should have a physical barrier to separate it from the straight ahead lanes.
Like it makes sense when pointed out or if you use it often, but first time at this junction it’d not be east to know. And many people (like myself) are shite drivers.
Problem with lane markings, when it’s busy, there’s cars on them, there definitely needs to be road signage as well.
See it a lot coming to junctions and roundabouts, where the standard marking that follows the road lines, and the arrows don’t match.
I’m not your culprit, but there’s a fair few examples about.
I tend to have sympathy for those that get caught out with the expectation, that road marking is sufficient. When there’s traffic, it’s going to be blocked from view, and that’s when you’ll not have opportunity to blend or change lane without causing disruption.
Is that the one as ur coming out of James house and all I shutter with fear at that one
Eh. This is a shitty design. If it happens on repeat it’s a streamer/road planning issue more than it is the drivers fault imo.
