  1. Submission Statement: Canada’s prime minister expressed disapproval of a second visit from us preisdent trump to the united kingdom. stating that “To be frank, [Canadians] weren’t impressed by that gesture… given the circumstance,” he said. “It was at a time when we were being quite clear about the issues around sovereignty.” this comes after the president has expressed interest in annexing the country

  2. IMO: Carney believes that this is a sign that the United Kingdom does not take the threat to Canada seriously or would side with the united states over Canada in a conflict. at the very minimum he sees it as rewarding bad behavior.

Historically Britain has been lax about the defense of Canada with the strategy during the interwar period (last time the us and Britain seriously considered war) being to abandon Canada entirely. in the war of 1812 canadian milita were left with a very minimal garrison for the first 2 years of the conflict. the fact canada survived as a nation was due to the Canadians themselves not any imperial overlord.

  3. It’s crazy that I feel like the EU is more supportive of Canada than the UK is.

You’d think they would have Canada’s back, no matter what, with all the CANZUK talk.

  4. Starmer is surprisingly playing the geopolitical game well despite his domestic failures. The initial tariff was a relief for Britain as it got hit with the lower base tariff, then to go and get more favourable terms in the following deal is also an even bigger relief since Starmer managed to hold the key red lines.

This state visit invitation precedes Carney. Following it Britain avoided harsher tariffs and got the deal that many predicted they would never get. The US has also softened up on Ukraine.

As for the threat of invasion. It currently is simply not credible and no one believes it, it’s nothing but economic and political pressure. Since the election win Carney should not be so concerned. There have been no troop movements or whispers elsewhere in state that we the public are aware of. Not to mention an American can’t sneeze without five eyes knowing.

I am not sure Carney voicing this publicly is a good idea. I get the impression that the narrative is that Britain is conducting a great betrayal of Canada, such a narrative seems artificial.

It also seems to be a silly narrative to try and craft. The king will be opening parliament in Canada. Britain and Canada have had meetings. Britain has not abandoned Ukraine.

I see a lot of Canadian posters whipped up into a frenzy over this “betrayal” but perhaps they wouldn’t be throwing stones if they knew Canada chose to remain neutral during the Falklands war.

  5. The thing is Canada holds very little sway in these affairs

  6. The elephant in the room = will Carney actually do anything other than useless meetings or making useless statements ??? Thats the real question.

Meetings and trips are all useless if nothing is gained. Mere statements are useless too!

  7. Car ey will soon realize that Canada has no sway in world affairs.

  8. I don’t think the people of the uk want him there either.
