  1. it should not be mechanically possible to accelerate a modern car to those speeds in an urban setting. That’s the takeaway from this. Cars are fucking dangerous and its time the manufactures starting taking some responsibility.

  2. If her neurological defence works you’d hope she’d still be banned for life from driving.

  3. If she knew about her condition, she chose to put the public at risk and deserves a long sentence.

If this was how it was discovered, this is a tragic accident.

  4. Whatever the verdict here, it has to be agonising for everyone to wait 2.5 years for a trial

  5. I am so glad the headline clarifies the driver’s gender, as that is so relevant for understanding this case.

  6. It is absolutely insane that MPs are pushing through legislation criminalising dangerous cycling, while there is no legal certainty to ensure dangerous drivers are kept off the road. Someone like this who knowingly drives with a medical condition that makes them unfit should not have a licence, and they should face a stiff penalty if they do so anyway and kill someone. 53mph on a two lane 20mph London road surrounded by cyclists and pedestrians. This case is heartbreaking as any of us could have been the victim of this woman’s behaviour.

Much like the Richmond school crash killings, I feel so bad for him and his family.

  7. Would the headline be ‘Man driver’ if the situation was reversed? Very unlikely.

  8. “Woman driver”? Holy shit I’ve fallen into the 1970s by mistake.

  9. Having a condition THAT BAD means you should never have been behind the wheel of a car.

The **only** way it was reasonable for her to drive is if this moment was incredibly rare for her, as in she had never had an episode this bad. Otherwise, every single day she was putting others lives at risk. That’s a decision. That’s beyond irresponsible.

She has blood on her hands.

  10. Normally to cause injury to a cyclist by car you have to have something quite defective in your inability to drive to a safe standard.

  11. I lived exactly opposite the road at the time that this happened. My flatmate and I would cycle to work all the time I remember hearing about it and texting him straight away. I hope this poor man gets justice, neurological condition my arse.

  12. The only two words i need to know shes guilty start the sentence “woman driver”

  13. I hope the car had telematics to see how unconscious she really was.
