Lol. You’re super cool whilst that other guy is definitely a loser
Yes that seems more fitting with reality
I always consider that little nub in the north of Derbyshire part of the north too
Does this sub have to always be just people’s opinions on how to divide the country? This is like the 4th post like this today.
To be honest this is pretty much how I’ve always seen it in my head.
The east will be free!
Surely Essex is considered part of the South?
Rename the South the South East, include Essex in it, have London as a totally different entity & you’d be bang on. The other person’s effort was so piss-poor I can only presume they’ve never travelled outside of their own county.
This is the most sensible ones of these I have seen here.
Think herefordshire is historically more Midlands than South West, but also a touch Welsh – The Marcher Lords used to range from there down to Chepstow and beyond, talking 14th century though
I’m still never going to accept an East Anglia that includes Essex. It’s Norfolk and Suffolk and that’s it.
People always put Northamptonshire in the Midlands, but it does not feel like the midlands at all. It’s in the same grouping as Bedfordshire and Milton Keynes, no man’s land that isn’t East, Midland or South.
I also think Wiltshire is South, it doesn’t feel very West country. Much more like Oxfordshire and Hampshire.
Perfection.
This is the way.
I would run a line approximately along the A66 though, dividing “The North” and “The Real North”.
Your map claims Grimsby is in The Midlands. Not sure how that sits with me.
Yeah that works out well
I would put the High Peak in purple.
This is basically the official government regions. I struggle to disagree with it
Perfect. Would make London its own thing as quite literally no one wants to associate themselves with it other than Londoners.
where is the black country? I have been 5 years in England, and I still don’t know how to identify the black country 🙁
There are plenty of people with strooooong opinions on the idea of Wiltshire and Gloucestershire being part of the west country.
Gloucestershire always confuses me. It’s part of the same River Severn valley region as Herefordshire, Shropshire and Worcestershire and it’s a Welsh border county (Forest of Dean) so I always wonder why it’s considered South West and not West Midlands. The Cotswold hills even provide a nice geographical boundary with Gloucestershire’s main population base on one side and Wiltshire/ Somerset on the other. So geographically it’s definitely more tied in with those Midland counties to the north but maybe culturally it’s different and more “West Country-ish?” Anyone from the area reading this please let me know, I’m interested.
This is bang on
Spot on.
It’s even simpler than that, anything south of the north is just France
Perfection
Does East Anglia even deserve to be on here?
Cambridgeshire is “the south”, as is Essex, and no-one really cares about the Eastfolks, they can be lumped into the midlands.

This is how I see it in my head too
As someone who is red, green colour blind….
Fuck you
Pretty similar to how I see it too
How I mentally divide it.
