1. Exactly. But not only the British Empire. Since the earlier years of the Colonial administration the ethnicist division tactics were implemented by the Colonial government. Through education, violence or Economic methods the Colonial administration intentended to separate communities along ethnic lines. Which they suceeded in doing so. Bringing mainland Greek and Turkish teachers for educarional purposes made ethnicistic stance more popular amongst Cypriots. The direct interference of Turkey in Cyprus was not very common until 1974 except for some flyovers in Limasol, Nicosia and Paphos in 1963 and also in Bombing Mansura, even in the battles of Gochina and Mansura Turkey mostly provided with air and naval support, most of the fighting was done by the Mücahids and the university students studying abroad who came back to Cyprus to defend Gochina. Most of the involvment of Turkey was indirect via the Yörük Turcomen soldiers, Turkish teachers and Turkish Cypriots, which consisted of the harassment or murder of Greek speaking, Religious or Leftist Turkish Cypriots or the bombing of Mosques, schools, Atatürk statues or other important public institution buildings. But it can not be overlooked that Greek Cypriots also killed Turkish Cypriots and vise versa. Two of my Great grandfathers (one maronite other TC) were killed by Greek Cypriots. The reason for these murders, attacks and unrest was also one of the causes of the divide and rule policy of Britain. Before then, these kinds of Problems were rare in Cyprus and the reason for them was not ethnic origin but they were blood feuds or blood murders. And the United States of America was also one of the culprits of the Cypriot problem. American soldier and diplomat Dean Acheson was the person who had solidified the ethnic division plans of Britain and America on the map with his infamous Acheson plans in 1964. He was a well known anticommunist and he was also known to be very distrustful of Makarios. He was the person who solidified the stance of The USA in the early cold war years and the engineer of the USA’s middle east domination plan, of which Cyprus was one of the key points in and which Makarios(a functioning Cypriot state) was an obstacle on. Later Kissinger took on after Acheson for the USA’s middle east domination plan. At the time Cyprus being a member of the unaligned movement and a partner of the soviet union treatened this plan. He went and told Gizikis and İoannidis that Musgos ( Makarios) was the red priest and that he would Turn Cyprus into Cuba even though they very well knew that he was not a communist. He also defined the belief that “Athens commands, Nicosia does” one example of which he refused to accept İoannidis’ plans to kill or force to imigrate all the Turkish Cypriots from Cyprus which Makarios firmly refused an which actualy one of the final breaking points between their already weak ties. İn 1974 the coup was done to eliminate Makarios after his eventual event from the palace sampson was ordered to bring Makarios’ head on a silver plate to Athens, which he fortunately failed. İf he suceeded there would be no Republic of Cyprus now. The junta was reinforced by Kissinger that Turkey would not intervene in the case of a coup. And Turkey was shown the green light by Kissinger to intervene in Cyprus and he closely monitored that Turkey stoped at the Acheson line which they did with few exceptions and Varosha, later the Turkish juntist Kenan Evren famously proclaimed that “we took Varosha so that we could bargain it away”. İf Makarios was killed there would have been no UN degree 3212 that proclaimed all world countries recognise the sovereignty of the Republic of Cyprus and work for the removal of all the foreign troops from the İsland. İf Makarios had died earlier in the coup or assasination attempts on his life there would be double Enosis as the Acheson plan required Northern part becoming a part of Turkey and the south a part of Greece.
