So, again, Russia is making it clear that they have absolutely no intention of actually seeking peace unless they can at the same time declare their unjustified and unprovoked invasion to be a success.
This is entirely unsurprising but at the same time yet more evidence that Russia will not behave unless given no choice.
I see why DNR and LNR are okay to be assimilated into Russia, since they didn’t get any support from the Minsk 2 treaties to be left alone (autonomous).
But, why are Kherson and Zaporizhzhia part of this? They had no agreement in the Minsk treaties and this seems out of the blue. Is it bc of the nuclear power plant?
Alas even Europe is dragging feet on doing something substantial. The very fact they they are “considering more sanctions” proves that. Let alone their own cooperations dodging then by all means possible.
What do people expect Russia to do? Just say sorry and give up after losing ~1 million people (wounded, missing in action, deaths etc.)?
Like even in the shittiest strategy game the AI is demanding something. Nothing really changed for Russia. If the West is not starting to pressure them more (weapons, secondary sanctions against partners, security guarantees) Russia will not move from their demands. Why should they? For peace? They started this war and still think they can get more out of it. Why should they want peace on Western/Ukraine’s terms now?
Give them something like crimea and 2 regions or give Ukraine more stuff to blow up Russian infrastructure. Otherwise there is no peace until 27/28.
Can we please wake up and treat this war as a real war and not some game? Can Ukraine win? Is the West ready to support even more? Will the West support Ukraine if the war becomes a forever war? If the West is not willing or ready to really go against Russia then take a deal. If the West is ready to go against China and/or allow Ukraine to go all out with Western equip then keep fighting. But we need some decisions here. Fighting a war if you cannot win back much territory or are even slowly losing is not worth it. Do we care about the people or about prestige like the 20th century empires? Even a loss is ok in the end if the West and Ukraine can achieve a better future together.
