  5. Francis’s calls for peace in Ukraine often felt detached from the reality of Russian aggression – well-intentioned, but overly idealistic.

    Leo, on the other hand, seems more grounded and morally clear in how he approaches global conflict. Let’s see how he’ll do in the future.

  6. Pope Francis offered this too. I read it in his autobiography titled HOPE. He immediately suggested this. I am also very pleased with how Pope Leo XIV is leading our Church. 😊

  8. Why would the Russian side agree to this? Especially given the relation between the Russian Orthodox Church and the Vatican? Doesn’t seem very logical to me.

  11. As a rule, Russians don’t like Catholics. Like, bigotry against Catholics is generally considered socially acceptable across most of the Anglophone world: but the Russians *really* don’t like Catholicism.

    I could see Putin rejecting this outright, purely on the basis that it’s A) the Pope and B) the Vatican, honestly. At the same time, maybe trying to push for some kind of ecumenical thing with the Patriarch of Moscow could bear fruit? Hard to say.

  25. Both Ukraine and Russia are primarily Eastern Orthodox countries. Wonder why Bartholomew I, Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, hasn’t made a similar offer.
