Seems like a strange judgement, the tribunal accepts the ‘slave’ remark was just a clumsy joke and not intended maliciously, it rejected the claim of racial discrimination or discriminatory conduct under the Equality Act, and finally it said the complainant had an “acute sensitivity to criticism” and a mindset that “treats any critical comment as unfair”. And yet… here’s three hundred and sixty grand. Okay then.

2. Deserved. The black security manager should have been paid out way more for this blatant racism.

9. The main reason for the award was subjecting him to a random disciplinary investigation with no basis and no prior notice (the judgment states *”Neither of the witnesses who gave evidence before us on behalf of the
   Respondent even attempted to substantiate any alleged or suspected wrongdoing
   on the part of the Claimant”*) which prompted his resignation i.e
   constructive dismissal.

    The slave thing was just part of the issue. You have to demonstrate that you were actually mistreated, not just mean words.

    But I guess it’s harder to discuss context when you can just rage about it.

19. My wife is American and moved to the Uk in 2003. Some months after she had been here, my wife had an interview via a recruitment agency. She is Hispanic and has a dark/olive complexion. She is also a Goth. She wore a pinstripe suit with a leather trench coat as it was raining. After the interview, she was told by the recruiter that they loved her but they though she was “too dark”. Try and interpret that how you will and they tried to backtrack.
