FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (May 16, 2025) – NAU Basketball lands the sixth transfer of the offseason in former San Francisco forward, Karl Poom.

“We are thrilled to have Karl a part of our team. Karl has experience playing for well-respected coaching staffs and on big stages during his time playing for USF, the Estonian U20 Team, and professionally in Italy. His size, versatility, and toughness will fit perfectly into what we do and make him a true force on both ends of the court. We can’t wait for Karl to get to Flagstaff and be a part of our basketball family,” head coach Shane Burcar said.

 

Originally from Tartu, Estonia, the 6’8 sophomore compete for his home country in the FIBA U20 EuroBasket. In his most recent campaign, Poom averaged 8.3 points, 10.0 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game, ranking fifth in the rebounding. In 2023, Poom averaged 13.1 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 2.1 assists in 28.3 minutes on the floor for Estonia in the FIBA U20 European Championship.

 

Poom has played for club teams Monferrato, and Rieti Real, both who compete in the Serie A2 basketball league in Italy.
