Iceland has confirmed that impacted employees would be offered opportunities in surrounding stores

Iceland has confirmed the closure of two locations in June and July.

Iceland has said these store closures are part of a strategic review.

Margate, College Square store – Closing on June 21Inverness, City Centre store – Closing on July 12

Regarding the closure of the Margate location, an Iceland spokesperson said: “Our store colleagues have entered into a consultation process and have been offered opportunities at surrounding stores where possible.”

A specific reason for the closure has not yet been revealed, however, it is believed the staff working at the store have been offered jobs elsewhere in the firm, according to The Mirror.

An Iceland spokesperson said of the Inverness store: “We can confirm our Iceland store located at Rose Street, Inverness, is scheduled to close on 12th July 2025.

“Our store colleagues will enter into a consultation process and will be offered opportunities at surrounding stores where possible.

“Shoppers can visit our local Food Warehouse store in Inverness located on Telford Street, IV3 5LU.”

Similar to the Margate location, a specific reason for the closure of the Inverness store has not been given.

Two Iceland stores have already closed this year:

Shenley Road, BorehamwoodAlphington Road Retail Park, Exeter

Additionally, At the end of 2024, Iceland revealed that its 10 stores in the Channel Islands would all be closing.

This is because of a new franchise agreement meaning Iceland goods will be sold in Alliance stores.

Iceland has over 900 stores across the UK and it is important to acknowledge retailers may shut certain stores due to a variety of reasons, and it does not mean they are facing troubles.

A high street chain may have to close its doors in an area of the country due to a tenancy coming to its end.

Or the specific branch profitability not being as strong as others.
