Events planned across the country to mark 10-year anniversary

Almost 6,000 same-sex couples have tied the knot since ­Ireland’s referendum on marriage equality was passed 10 years ago this week, with 3pc of all marriages in Ireland now involving partners of the same sex.

Ireland became the first country in the world to approve same-sex marriage by popular vote on May 22, 2015, in what was hailed by the health minister of the day, Leo Varadkar, as a “social revolution”.
