18th May 2025 – (Tallinn) Two civilian helicopters departing from Tallinn collided midair near Eura Airfield in southwestern Finland on Saturday afternoon, killing all five individuals on board, Estonia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed.
The accident occurred shortly after 12.30pm local time (0930 GMT). The Satakunta Rescue Department received a report of the crash from a nearby road, as both helicopters, identified as four-seater Robinson R44 Raven light aircraft, collided and plummeted to the ground. According to Finnish police, two individuals were aboard one helicopter, while three were in the other. Estonian officials confirmed there were no survivors.
During a press conference on Saturday evening, Margus Sarglepp, head of the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Consular Assistance Unit, stated that Finnish authorities are working to identify the deceased.
Estonian media reported that two of the victims were prominent businessmen, Oleg Sonajalg and Priit Jagant, though the identities of the other passengers have not yet been disclosed.
