Seoul, May 18 (EFE).- Firefighters continued their efforts Sunday to contain a large fire that broke out over the weekend at a tire manufacturing plant in Gwangju, about 300 kilometers southeast of Seoul.
According to authorities, the blaze is 80 percent contained after 460 people and 170 vehicles were deployed to the area.
The fire may have started Saturday due to equipment used to heat raw rubber at the Kumho Tire factory, which had to halt production.
A total of 182 residents of an apartment near the factory were evacuated to a shelter at Kwangju Women’s University due to the incident.
In images shared by the South Korean news agency Yonhap, several columns of black smoke can be seen rising from various points at the tire factory. EFE
