From the first round of French tax deadlines to French Mother’s Day and an opportunity to appreciate your neighbours in France, here’s what is happening in France this week.
Monday
‘Choose France’ summit – The seventh edition of the French presidency’s ‘Choose France’ business and investment summit will begin on Monday. It will take place at the Palace of Versailles. More information here.
Taxi strike – Unions representing taxi drivers have called for strike action on Monday across the country, in protest against changes to rates for medical transport by taxis.
Tuesday
Tax deadlines – Anyone filing their French tax declaration by paper must mail the documents by May 20th at the latest.
Wednesday
New flights – Air France will launch its new direct flight from Paris to Orlando on Wednesday.

WWII bomb removal – As happens every so often, an American bomb dating back to World War II was found during a construction project. The bomb was discovered in Waldwisse in eastern France. On Wednesday, a bomb disposal team will remove the device. As such there will be a security perimeter set up. More information on the Moselle préfecture website.

Tax deadlines – Thursday marks the first due date for online tax declarations. If you live in départements numbered 1 to 19, or if you live outside France but have income here – for example from renting out a holiday home – you have until 11.59pm on Thursday, May 22nd to complete your declaration online.

Grenoble contemporary art fair – The Grenoble Art Up fair will run from May 22nd to May 25th this year. There will be plenty of contemporary art to enjoy or purchase. More information on the website.
Friday
Neighbour’s Day – Also known as the Fête des Voisins, this is the perfect opportunity to say hello to your neighbours.

New flight – United Airlines will launch its direct flight between Washington DC (Dulles airport) and Nice starting on Friday, May 24th. The flight will run four times a week.
Sunday
Mother’s Day in France – Mother’s Day falls on May 25th this year in France, so don’t forget to buy a card or some flowers to appreciate the French moms in your life. If you are wondering when Mother’s Day takes place in the UK or US, sorry to tell you that you have already missed it (Mother’s Day in these two countries was on March 30th and May 11th, respectively).
Roland-Garros tennis tournament – The French Open begins on Sunday, May 25th and it will run until Sunday, June 8th. You can see the provisional schedule on the Roland-Garros website.
End of Degenerate Art exhibit – The Paris Picasso museum’s popular ‘Degenerate Art’ exhibit – displaying works that were banned by the Nazis – will end on Sunday.
