My pug is from a reputable breeder and has no health problems at all and can keep up with most other dogs. It’s not about the breed it’s about bad breeding.
The cruelty involved in breeding these animals to conform to a group of people’s strange aesthetic desires, with little regards to poor health outcomes is horrific.
The KC needs to pull their bloody finger out. If your dog can’t birth without human intervention, then it and it’s progeny cannot. E shown.
So many breed are freaks with serious health issues (e.g. Pugs, King Charles, German Shepherds, Dachshunds) and the dogs suffer just because some poncy twat wants “Best in Show”. Sickening.
Another tell is when people blab on about “show” and “working lines. If a portion of a breed is so far gone that it can no longer do its job, something is seriously wrong.
Buyers needs to seriously clue-up as well, not get another fashion accessory, and stop buying off Facebook/Gumtree. Cretins.
I would say “Adopt, don’t shop” but shelters are doing their level best to make that nigh on impossible as well.
Kennel Club has caused mass animal suffering for their Status Dogs that people treat like handbags and trophies rather than animals. We need KC to be overhauled and probably government interference to force it.
The way breeds have changed how they look in the last 100 years is sickening. So many breeds known for problems but they look Designer so they’re made to suffer. The rampant inbreeding to meet those gross fantasy proportions is only more recently phased out but the lineage is already damaged by it.
Proof that KC are the problem comes when you see multiple breeders trying to find ways to solve the health problems and get more natural aesthetics but the KC refuses to accredit these breeders. Fuck sake KC will shun even naturally occurring colours in certain breeds because it doesn’t meet their aesthetics despite being from purebred dogs.
KC paperwork doesn’t guarantee that the animal is healthier than backyard breeders. It just guarantees they’ll grow to look a certain way regardless of health.
The breed standards should promote the good health of the dog over just looks.
There’s so many dog breeds that are absolutely fucked due to peoples shitty taste, and I just don’t get the attraction. Now I’ve always had working dogs up untill about 6 years ago so maybe a little biased but why would you want something with a smashed in face that looks ugly as fuck and can’t do anything because it’s face makes it difficult to breathe ? Makes no sense at all to me.
I’d love another collie but due to my shift pattern and how much overtime I do it wouldn’t be fair but I wouldn’t even consider a lot of breeds that personally I think should be banned due to the health issues.
It’s disgusting that people breed and breed dogs until they’re like this. It’s also disgusting that people insist on buying these dogs. I know a few people recently who have spent two to three grand buying “purebred” dogs and I just don’t really understand the fascination with doing this.
I’ve got three dogs, all mixed mutts, all bought for less than £200 each. They’re fantastic dogs, full of energy and fun and most importantly all very healthy. Why do people really think that buying purebred is the better option?
Somebody with the interests of dogs at heart needs to take a stab at making a policy for this because dog breeders and related groups are often weirdos and the whole mess is only getting worse from generation to generation, which in dog terms is fairly rapid.
It’s not like anybody needs to do anything drastic or horrible to resolve the problem either, no dogs need to be put down, it is just dogs that are hitting dead-ends through inbreeding need to be neutered or crossed with something else.
But RSPCA doesn’t urge people away from Staffies and other such prone to violence dogs.
