  1. If that is factually true then fair enough. But if it is speculation then just say that.

  2. Sounds like a stretch, a real stretch. Everyone knows it was aliens.

  3. This is up there with the time the Sun decried woke students being taught that Dr Frankenstein is the monster and his creation is his victim.

You know… the point of the story.

  4. r/uknews acting like Gbnews again. Quelle surprise.

  5. Haven’t you heard? Today’s reality is just what you believe it is. Don’t you dare contradict it otherwise you could be labeled.

  6. No. The douchnozzles at the Policy Exchange think tank found it in a book in a school.

  7. Sounds more like colonisation than decolonisation.

  8. Does the quote “Britain was a black country for more than 7,000 years before white people came” look more like an objective analysis of British history, or an attempt to tell white people that they are lesser and don’t deserve to live in their own country?

Britain is a European country and will therefore have a curriculum that focused on itself and Europe just as India would have a curriculum that focus on India and the countries most impactful to it and so on. Why is it acceptable to try and take that away? Why is it acceptable to not teach people the history of a country they live in simply because it doesn’t fit into modern leftist narratives?

At what point will progressives and leftists realise that waging culture wars like this just fuels people like Farage?

  9. Shit rag gonna rage bait.

Early Brits were darker skin, the Telegraph is deliberately misleading what’s being taught in an attempt to drum up idiots into a frenzy.

  10. It’s OK, we don’t need any quotes for context. We’ll just take the Torygraph’s word for it, eh!

  11. So this would have been happening whilst the tories were in charge right? 🤦

Kinda impressed how the telegraph is just going to vent about the last 14 years and somehow blame it on Labour

  12. > Written by Atinuke, the Nigerian-born British author, it says that “Britain was a black country for more than 7,000 years before white people came”.

    This is silly and ahistorical.

At best its based on a misunderstanding of how light skin evolved, or speculation that the first inhabitants were afro-asiatic (from the same langauge family that become the Egyptian, Hebrew and Arabic languages – scant evidence of which can be found in the grammar of celtic languages).

But calling them ‘black’ and saying ‘before white people came’ ahistorical as far as I am aware.

It is worth noting though, that there are various groups of homo-sapiens that replaced eachother over time in europe. Perhaps its possible the older group had darker skin? But that is almost pure speculation as far as I am aware.

    > The report said: “In some cases this had a positive effect, exposing students to varied and knowledge-rich studies that better cover key areas of British history such as the women’s suffrage movement, as well as a wider range of world history.

This is a good thing. This is the good part that we ought to be doing more of.

  13. What a sad newspaper. Not easy staying relevant these days I guess.

  14. Wat

Given that its the torygraph i am assuming this is a deliberate misrepresention.

    Otherwise that’s real fuckin dum

  15. Decolonise is a word that needs decolonised.  And it contains the word colon which is a biased reference to your innards.  And connects near your bum so its rude.

  16. The Telegraph’s usual drivel. They find a book they don’t like and then insist it’s an integral part of the national curriculum, but they never state how many, if any, schools use it. They never state if the book is used exactly how it is used. And most importantly they never quote curriculum guidelines or go to the Department of Education for comment or clarification, and show zero evidence whatsoever that this book is being used as a teaching aid anywhere other than their fevered imagination.

  17. Am I right this is some click bait title? or kids actually taught this crap I wish this kind of nonsense was stopped and kids were actually taught things that were factual and not altered versions of history to suit some political narrative

  18. Quite ridiculous, its unrprovable either way. Those pushing either narrative should be ashamed of
    themselves.

“A Briton who lived 10,000 years ago had dark brown skin and blue eyes. At least, that’s what dozens of news stories published this month – [including our own](https://archive.ph/o/OdEZ7/https://www.newscientist.com/article/2160467-early-briton-from-10000-years-ago-had-dark-skin-and-blue-eyes/) – stated as fact. But one of the geneticists who performed the research says the conclusion is less certain, and according to others we are not even close to knowing the skin colour of any ancient human.”

  19. They’re trying to pretend white people aren’t from anywhere, that they don’t have a homeland.

  20. Telegraph culture war misrepresentation horseshit, designed to make people angry

  21. Everyone seems to be missing (and the original article is conveniently leaving out) that the book in question. Is not a history book. Its a fiction book.

Kids aren’t taught it in history classes. If it is part of a school curriculum, it will be in an English class.

  22. the telegraph again being the hatemongering panflet it is…

  23. It is this kind of rubbish that is driving us into the arms of Reform.

  24. I’m old enough to remember when the Telegraph was a respectable broadsheet.

  25. Early Neolithic Stonehenge without the huge sarsen stones was built by the local population, which in all likelihood had moderately dark skin as a result of the mingling of the earlier indigenous population and European arrivals. The famous colossal Stonehenge was built by the Beaker people who fell into the early Bronze Age and had Mediterranean complexions. Cheddar man was Mesolithic so much earlier and we have plenty of examples from the Bronze Age to show the shift over time.

  26. Now is this story true, or is it from the Daily Mail?

  27. # “The most effective way to destroy people is to deny and obliterate their own understanding of their history.” ― George Orwell

  28. A repeat written by a conservative think tank that refuses to reveal who finds them. With a foreword by an historian who himself has been accused of political bias and historical revisionism.

I’ll maybe not take this article as the gospel truth.
