Stag beetle, I found a few of there grubs about a month or two ago while working in the garden.
The People’s Trust for Endangered Species are asking the public to log any sightings of stag beetles so that they can map them to help better protect them. You can do it on their website here: [https://ptes.org/campaigns/stag-beetles-2/](https://ptes.org/campaigns/stag-beetles-2/)
A handsome chap.
That’s awesome! I’ve always wanted to see one
My favourite thing about stag beetles is that they can fly! I used to live in an area that had lots of them, and I had to dodge them when I went out for a jog in the evening.
Massive Attack – Mezzanine flashback to the dented beetle on the album cover
I got bitten on the bum by one of these when I sat on it in a forest as a kid!
Oh wow – I would love to see one of these in my garden – that’s amazing!
He’s out on a…stag do. 😵
A few years ago, I found one just chilling in the middle of my living room floor.
No word of a lie. A few weeks later, I found another one in the same spot. It was incredible. Like a spawn point.
Placed the back in the corner of the garden.
They’d love this over at r/UKecosystem.
I think that’s Ringo.

Saw one in Wales when I was young and it scared the absolute shit out of me.
Saw these loads as a kid, was scared of them as was on my swing and one was walking along, turned to face me, and stood up on it’s back legs, opening and closing it’s mandibles. I was about 3 or 4. Screamed my head off. My older brother came out the house and stood there laughing at me. Yes he was a fucker. He eventually grabbed it and put it in the bushes.
Beautiful. I have not seen one for years
I rolled over in bed once to see one sat on my pillow. I had no idea what it was and very nearly died from shock. Poor bugger just wanted a cosy nap but ended up with my screaming mug in his face.
I would like to see one, but absolutely do not want them near my house
I found a female one once, in Kings Langley, near Watford. At least that’s what I think it was. They don’t have the big “antlers” like the males.
I remember finding one of those when I was little, I thought it was dead as it was floating in some water and didn’t move when I poked it so I took it home in a bucket.
It was not dead. It was very much alive and very annoyed someone had put it in a bucket.
We have a lot of stag beetle grubs in our garden. We just happen to live in an area where they are concentrated. Apparently overall they are quite rare. They are really ungainly when they fly and can thump into you if you don’t watch out.
Years ago spotted one. Only thing better than spotting one is seeing one fly. It was sunny, and the inner shell appeared bright red, looked wonderful as it landed.
Always wanted to find one if these guys. Only ever found lesser stag beetles
Someone found one in the gym I attend once, I was the only one not freaked out by him (even the big burly PT’s) so I picked him up and put him outside
Love nature’s engineering, he’s amazing.
Saw these in France. Seeing them fly is awesome
I worked at Heathrow airport about 10 – 11 years ago building a new terminal. Saw one of these as we were walking back to site just crawling along the tarmac. Didn’t have a clue what it was at first because I’d never seen one before.
