    I’m a contractor that services production and testing facilities. My one customer disclosed they were paying $30,000 in tariffs for their shipments where they previously didn’t have to.

  2. Trump has no idea how much his tariffs will implode normal American finances. He doesn’t shop, probably has never entered a Walmart or a grocery store. And he doesn’t appear to care much about anything right now except his gift plane.

  12. The US voted for this. Trump said he would tariff just about everything coming into the country. They had warning but they still voted him in. Consumers pay tariffs – nobody else.

  19. He can’t force retailers to hide this extra charge. He can yell and threaten all he wants, but in the end they have the right to do this.

    Retailers will be the most effective means of the widespread awareness about this nightmare of a policy. No one can be dumb enough to think all of them are full of shit. He cannot control this narrative no matter how hard he hits the caps lock.

  20. Our lead time is 14-16 weeks so we’ve already been experiencing the pain of having someone’s project budget doubling due to trumps taxes. A lot of them are simply cancelling for the time being.

  29. I remember when the UK formally left the EU and suddenly we had import charges on things we hadn’t previously.

    I had bought a voucher for a nice hotel in Ireland for our 10th anniversary, enough for 2 nights. There was the opportunity to have the voucher put in a nice little personalised gift box for £5 or so extra and I thought “yeah, why not”.

    Anyway, one day I get a letter saying I had a parcel at the mail depot but needed to pay customs charges on it, so I go online to pay them, expecting it to be a couple of pounds.

    They were asking me for £90. (Roughly $120.)

    Not the hotel, not the Irish government, not the EU, not the British government, me. The one guy who was just trying to buy his wife a nice gift. I had to pay it.

    This was due to the fact that it was based on the amount I paid for the voucher (not cheap, but not so much that an extra £90 is trivial). Even if it was just a small piece of paper in a little box with some ribbon.

    Luckily, I got in contact with the hotel and they just emailed me a voucher to print at my own convenience. This won’t be possible with every imported good.

    Just a fun little anecdote about the fun and games of experiencing new barriers to trade.

  32. Yep. Also, a big one for me is that I work on my own car, as well as my wife’s and most parts distributors have announced tariff surcharges. An AC compressor kit that normally costs about $450 last time I checked is now $645. So I’m scrambling around to see which online stores haven’t initiated tariff increases and stocking up on everything from oil filters to other maintenance parts.

  34. Republicans picked a crook and a liar to lead them. They knew what he was, they still know what he is, and they still support him. If he fooled you into voting GOP and you’re only now starting to realize the problem, try to remember it at the next chance you have to pick your representatives. For now, be prepared for worse because you’re only four months into this.

  38. Trump has always been wealthy, and he has no idea what regular working people go through and how tight their budget can be. He can’t conceive of it, because he’s never shopped at a grocery store or cooked his own meal or even worked a day in his life.

    Please note that he has ripped off his own employees and refused to pay contractors, so he can’t even be rich properly. He’s oblivious to reality as we know it.

  41. I mentioned I work with a company who had to pay 100% of their cost of goods and a Trumplican accused me of lying. I don’t understand? How can you simultaneously defend his plan for Tariffs and simultaneously deny they’re occurring? These people are so brainwashed it’s crazy.

    Billionaires pay taxes. However, they make so much money, that their tax-bill is huge every year. They don’t like this.

    Your tax bill is small. Every year, you get more in governmental services than it costs you in tax. FAR MORE. Being stupid, you don’t realize this, however. You only see all the money that gets taken out of your pay every month. You think that you are getting a bad deal. When, in fact, you are getting the deal of a lifetime.

    You spend a huge portion of your income on stuff every year. Groceries alone are probably 5 or 10% of your income.

    Billionaires spend almost none of their income on groceries.

    Now, there are many different ways you can pay for a government – and many ways you can tax people. We’ve chosen to tax everyone’s income. So, we take a small percentage of everyone’s income. And, the more you make, the more we (are supposed to) take.

    Billionaires HATE this system. They make the most – so they pay the most. Something like half of all taxes are paid by the top 1 or 2%.

    They would MUCH rather have a system where, instead of income, we taxed spending! Instead of a percentage of your income – we take a percentage of your spending! Remember above, where billionaires spend almost none of their income on groceries and such? By taxing spending, instead of income, they now only have to pay for 4 or 5% of the government, instead of 50%!

    That other 45 or 46% still needs to come from somewhere – and now it comes from YOUR pocket! Instead of their’s.

    The billionaires are now making YOU pay for the government. All of it. Instead of them footing half the bill. And you all voted for it…
