  1. Roger Daltrey? David Bowie! Annie Lennox? Maddy Prior? 50-100 others on albums I have….

  2. Always found this an odd point, as if people don’t realise that half of singing is about lengthening and shortening vowels, and that that is also generaly the main difference between accents

  3. Disagree – I’d say the British and American singing accents are necessarily closer to each other than the speaking ones, but you can usually tell whether the singer is North American or a Brit

  4. Sleaford Mods, Mark Bolan, Goldie Lookin’ Chain, Blur to name but a few

  5. Normalise using this flag when english is an option: 🇬🇧. hell even 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 because we also have welsh, manx, irish, scot’s and scot’s gaelic up in this hood

  6. I mean, I knew Nickleback was Canadian when they rhymed Sorry with Story.

  7. the qemists, fightstar, the one hundred and a lot of other bands would like to have a word

edit: o forgot to mention one of my fav bands seething akira

  8. Alex Turner? Not only sounds English, but very distinctly from Yorkshire. Certainly toned down from when he was younger, but the twang is still there.

  9. Lol I always thought the opposite – how British Americans sound when they sing xD

Seems like singing is either halfway between the two or a third “neutral” (Swiss) option.

  10. Yeah – cos the Clash/Smiths/Sex Pistols sound really fucking American smh

  11. Not always true. There’s loads of them who keep their accent! If I started naming them then I’d be here all day!

I once saw catatonia live…Cerys was absolutely fucking smashed…but they gave a great performance and it was a treat to hear her sing so “welshy”

  12. Never thought any of the Manchester bands sang with American accents.

  13. If we sing in our own accents it ends up sounding like a folk or football song.

  14. Time to buy the album This Is The Story by The Proclaimers.

    Thank me later

  16. The indy era of the early 2000s bands like the futureheads, maximo park, Arctic Monkeys, Kaiser chiefs.

  17. Have we mentioned Freddie Mercury,
Elton John or Paul McCartney yet?

  18. Ah yes, Joss Stone, born in a coastal town in America’s southeastern county of Kent.

  19. An awful lot don’t.

Steve Marriott, David Bowie, Pete Shelley, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Ringo Star, Damon Albarn, Liam Gallagher, Syd Barrett, Ozzy Osbourne, Phil Oakey, Susan Anne Sulley, Joanne Catherall, Kate Bush.

I could go on, but I’m sick of typing, tbh.
