Germany needs a win as it takes on Czechia in a Group B game in the IIHF World Championship on Monday.

Czechia (5-0-0, 14 points) already has its ticket punched to the quarterfinals of the 2025 IIHF World Championship. On Monday, the Czechs take on Germany (3-2-0, 9 points), which has work to do to grab the final spot in the knockout stage from Group B. The Germans have a game in hand over co-host Denmark, which also has nine points with the teams slated to face-off in their final group stage game on Tuesday. The Germany vs. Czechia game is set for Jyske Bank Boxen in Herning, Denmark.

Czechia overwhelmed Kazakhstan 8-1 on Saturday, getting a hat trick from captain Roman Červenka (Dynamo Pardubice, Czechia) in the rout. Matěj Stránský (Davos, Switzerland) and Adam Klapka (Calgary Flames) scored two goals apiece and Jakub Flek (Kometa Brno, Czechia) also lit the lamp. Karel Vejmelka (Utah Mammoth) stopped 22 shots in the win. Červenka leads the team with five goals and shares the lead of 10 points with David Pastrňák (Boston Bruins). Vejmelka has a 1.97 goals-against average and .908 save percentage in three starts.

Germany fell behind 3-0 after one period on Saturday but roared back to tie the game in the second before falling 6-3 as the United States clinched a quarterfinal berth. Wojciech Stachowiak (ERC Ingolstadt, Germany) tied the game at 14:31 in the second after Eric Mik (Eisbären Berlin) and Jonas Müller (Eisbären Berlin) scored earlier in the period. Stachowiak has three goals in the tournament, while Dominik Kahun (Lausanne, Switzerland) has a team-best seven points. Philipp Grubauer (Seattle Kraken) has a 2.43 GAA and .920 save percentage in three games in net.

Czechia is the defending world champion, winning as host in 2024 for its seventh gold medal at the worlds. Germany placed sixth a year ago and has taken silver three times, most recently in 2023.
