Under Article IV of the Articles of Agreement of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the Fund holds bilateral discussions, usually every year, with member countries after which it issues a report on the results of such consultations. Guyana has been a member of the Fund since 1966.
On 15 April 2025, the IMF issued its report on the results of its 2025 Article IV Consultation on Guyana. The report was compiled by the IMF staff following discussions with officials on Guyana’s economic developments and policies. The Executive Board met on 2 May 2025, considered the report and issued a press release on 7 May 2025 in which it stated that it agreed with the thrust of the staff appraisal, while at the same time offering its own comments.
In today’s article, we present the highlights of the 2025 IMF Consultation report.
