Mayor of Newark released after arrest at immigration detention center • FRANCE 24 English

At the gates of Delaney Hall detention center in New York, an agitated crowd is pushing and shoving as federal officials block the entry to the mayor of the city, Ros Baraka, before he’s arrested and detained for allegedly trespassing the facility. The mayor of New York, Ross Baraka, committed trespass and ignored multiple warnings from Homeland Security investigations to remove himself from the IC detention center in New York, New Jersey this afternoon. He has willingly chosen to disregard the law. Mayor Baraka, who is running to be the next New Jersey governor, has been protesting against the opening of the a thousand bed detention center over unresolved building permit issues. Three US congressmen who accompanied him on Friday condemned the ICE agents behavior and said they were conducting an oversight of the facility, something which they are entitled to do as elected officials. They feel no weight of the law. They feel no restraint on what they should be doing. And that was shown in broad daylight today where they not just arrested the mayor of Newark, but when they put their hands on two members of Congress who are standing behind me, Baraka Baraka. Mayor Baraka’s arrest drew a crowd outside of where he was being detained with protesters and worker unions demanding his release before he was eventually freed. Delaney Hall is just one of the many immigration detention centers which has reopened in the US following the Trump administration’s crackdown on undocumented immigrants and plans to increase detention beds nationwide. Night.

Newark Mayor Ras Baraka was released after spending several hours in custody following his arrest at a new federal immigration detention center he has been protesting against.

  1. I hope someone is tracking the ice agents for state prosecutions when the Dems get back in.
Each ICE agent or Police officer that has partivipated needs to face prison.

  2. No one is above the law? Then how did we end up with a 34 time convicted felon in the White House, in violation of the 14th Amendment of the Constitution? The Feds probably arrested the mayor because he is black and his name is too similar to Barack Obama.

  3. The Brown Shirts are growing in numbers and in power. Legally or illegally? Remember when trump used ice agents as a military force to circumvent laws during protests in Oregon. They kidnapped people off the streets, throwing them into vans etc. They only stopped when exposed by the media. Now the orange man is trying to control the media, and things aren't getting exposed as much. Fascism anyone?

  4. He was on public property. He was NOT there protesting. It only started to get rough when they started to try and arrest him. If you do your research instead of just watching this one view of the situation, you'll know what actually occurred. And it was just a Class E misdemeanor that he was charged with. Grow a brain people! 🙄
