New World Jewish Congress (WJC) chief Sylvan Adams urges bold action, including potential airstrikes, if Iran refuses to halt its nuclear program.

Sylvan Adams, newly appointed head of the World Jewish Congress (WJC) for the Israel region, cautioned against reviving diplomatic approaches similar to the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). Speaking at the WJC’s 17th Plenary Assembly in Jerusalem, Adams emphasized the need for “bold leadership and decisive action” in addressing Iran’s nuclear ambitions.

The assembly, held at the Tolérance Museum in Jerusalem, gathered over 300 Jewish leaders from 70 countries. Adams’ remarks underscored concerns that any agreement resembling the Obama-era deal would merely defer the issue to future administrations. He argued that such an approach would not effectively halt Iran’s nuclear program.

Adams proposed that if Iran refuses to halt its uranium enrichment activities, Israel, in coordination with the United States, should consider a targeted military campaign to dismantle Iran’s nuclear capabilities. He asserted that Iran is currently more vulnerable than ever and that its strategy of delay and deception should not succeed.

The WJC’s stance reflects broader skepticism within the Jewish community regarding the 2015 nuclear agreement. Critics, including former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, have argued that the deal did not adequately address Iran’s regional activities and nuclear aspirations. Netanyahu referred to the agreement as an “historic mistake,” cautioning that it would make the world a more dangerous place by enabling Iran to pursue nuclear weapons .

In contrast, some Jewish leaders and organizations have supported diplomatic efforts, emphasizing the importance of engagement and negotiation in preventing nuclear proliferation. This division highlights the complex and varied perspectives within the global Jewish community on how best to address the Iranian nuclear issue.

The WJC’s call for a more assertive approach to Iran’s nuclear program aligns with the positions of other Israeli officials and allies who advocate for stringent measures to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. The organization’s leadership continues to monitor developments closely, advocating for policies that prioritize the security and interests of Israel and the Jewish people.

As international discussions on Iran’s nuclear program continue, the World Jewish Congress remains a vocal proponent of policies that ensure robust oversight and accountability. The organization urges global leaders to consider the long-term implications of any agreements with Iran, advocating for solutions that effectively address the threat of nuclear proliferation.
