Spotted 3 V22 Ospreys flying past Halifax West Yorkshire last night and again this morning at 5am.
Tracked them to RAF Fairford and back to Leuchars in Scotland.

  1. That is cool. Used to seeing the odd chinook but ospreys seem like the futuristic evolution of the chinook.

  2. I would have sworn these were drones without knowing more about planes. Great spot! Were they loud?

  3. My favourite aircraft. Just something about them that’s so cool.

  4. USMC Ospreys, no? I believe it’s only the Marines who use them.

  5. They fly over the office I work in, in south Manchester quite regularly, from what I could find online there some US Special Forces training that they take part in occasionally. Wonder if this is the same

  6. The year is 2025, and people still haven’t figured out how to submit photos and still take screenshots of their screen and submit that instead.

  7. Apparently they flew over Worcester yesterday but I missed it :((

  8. I saw a couple of these over Oxfordshire on Wednesday. Thought “huh, that’s odd” and then immediately forgot. This just reminded me

  9. Oh my god these bloody things. ALWAYS going over ours. Really low. Always sounds like the sky is falling in!
And based on a comment above apparently they crash a lot? So that’s something to look forward to in my garden….

  10. Woke me up, no need for that! Couldn’t they have flown at a decent hour lol

  11. These are a regular sight over our house, they make the sash and case windows shake like mad.

Even cooler at night though as they light the propeller tips up green for some reason.

  12. Brave pilots! Although the US marine corps maintains it’s one of the safest aircraft in the fleet.

  13. They’ve been in and out of Barton a few times in the last week. Loud AF and prone to the odd crash or two.

  14. These are often called ‘Widowmaker’ due to their crash record.

  15. Yes. There were shitloads of U.S military aircraft out yesterday.

  16. Nice one.

    They are loud and fast.

When one of the US prez’s were over years ago they flew over our flat a couple of times over a few days. They were quite loud escorting the Presidential helicopter but basically trundling along. One day, I think after they’d dropped him off, they shot past much lower than usual (seemed almost window height and very close and they were gunning it! Shook everything, it was so cool.

  17. 3 flew straight overhead last Sunday when I was playing golf at Keswick, got a decent video

  18. Cool plane-acopters, although I hear they have a high accident rate

  19. Should cross post this in r/aviation, we seem to love Ospreys there 😉

  20. I hope the locals are aware that they’re just non-living *flying machines* and won’t harm them, their sheep or their crops.

  21. What is going on in England right now, SAS in the streets last week. Ospreys are mainly designed for Spec Ops missions. Highly unlikely they are out for a training flight over West Yorkshire.
