  1. > Tom Cruise was interviewed by Entertainment Tonight at the New York City premiere of “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning,” where he refused to accept the title of “last movie star.” Cruise’s commitment to blockbuster filmmaking and his continued box office appeal around the world often has people saying he’s the last true movie star. But not so fast.

    > “I don’t want to be,” Cruise said. “There’s so many other talented actors out there and I want to see them crush it.”

    > Cruise said one example is Michael B. Jordan, who along with director Ryan Coogler has powered the R-rated vampire movie “Sinners” to a mighty $240 million at the domestic box office and counting. Cruise posted a photo of himself in April attending a “Sinners” screening. Jordan then popped up at the London premiere of the latest “Mission: Impossible” movie.

  2. You’re trying so hard to make me like you Tom Cruise… but I’m not forgetting the Scientology

  3. I find the push to pretend Tom Cruise is the last or ultimate movie star weird seen as he was pretty much struggling for a long time. Everyone seems to have forgotten that.

  4. This is like the fourth or fifth headline I’ve seen involving Tom Cruise and Michael B Jordan in the last month. They fucking or something?

  5. Please let his Scientology PR team rest, this is like the 90th article this week

  6. He’s been mentioning Jordon a lot lately…100% poaching him for The Cause

  7. I don’t think movie stars are dying, I think the industry is dying/being ruined by the executives. Like we used to get massive rom coms **yearly** and those were a huge success, but now? Most romcoms are straight to streaming and don’t get any buzz.

  8. Why is there so much positvie Tom Cruise PR circulating? Is Scientology trying to cash in on their cash cow again?

  9. Tom Cruise seems like a decent guy. It’s a shame he’s part of that wacky cult.

  10. I feel like he’s trying to sway Michael B Jordan to scientology.

  11. It’s always interesting to see how scientology is the only thing people bring up regarding Tom not that he is a deadbeat dad.

  12. Maybe it’s just me but I don’t have a problem separating Tom cruise the actor from Tom cruise the Scientologist. THE action hero of all time.

  13. The end of movie stars isn’t really about the people (there’s great actors out there, like he said). It’s the fault of the industry. In the past movies were all about the star

It was a BRUCE WILLIS movie

It was a TOM CRUISE movie

It was a KEVIN COSTNER movie

    It was an ARNOLD movie

Now movies are about the brand/IP

    It’s a MARVEL movie

    It’s a BARBIE movie

    It’s a PIXAR movie

  14. I feel like Michael B Jordan doesn’t have a sense of humor though. He could never be Les Grossman

  15. Who the hell said he’s the last movie star? Are they blind? Do they only watch movies with Tom Cruise in it?

  16. Don’t listen to him, Michael B. Jordan! It’s a cult!!!!!

  17. I do think what Michael B Jordan is doing is interesting … But Tom is just a different breed. People forget that during the height of his career, after Jerry Maguire, he spent three years making Eyes Wide Shut. He just loves movies and the art of it, and that’s something I think will be lost when he and maybe a few others — DiCaprio, MBJ, Brad Pitt — stop acting.

  18. I wonder if he would have been as successful if he had chosen another stage name. Tom Cruise is a pretty good movie star name.

When his face gets a little more craggy he’ll be able to play old Mick Jagger.

  19. Marvel movies have systematically ruined the American film industry. They have filtered all quality away abd exposed the industry for what it is – a big business which favours money over everything else.

  20. There are more people alive that know who Mr Beast is than Tom Cruise.

Movies stars are literally a dying breed, it’s one of the least likely avenues to stardom.

  21. He’s weird and deeply closeted but honestly I can’t think of a bad movie he’s ever done.

  22. Imagine a world where Cruise used his money and cache to create a series of smaller scale Mission impossible movies led by these other actors that culminated in larger, cross-over films.

    It could have worked.

  23. So….give him the keys to the Mission Impossible franchise, and stay onto produce. He’d kill it as Ethan Hunt or whatever generic secret agent name you give him.

  24. So glad Michael B. Jordan, he’s a fantastic with great roles already in his filmography this early in his career. And he directs and produces movies as well.

  25. He’s being nice but studios are never letting someone like Tom rise up and dictate terms anymore.

The days of paying actors 50mil a movie will die with Tom.

  26. Tom is a very strange dude. But, in regard to the industry, he knows how to pay it forward. He’s been around since he was like 19. He listened to the people he worked with. Like Paul Newman and other legends. He knows that his experience can be beneficial for young actors out there today. For that, I respect him. I do not respect him in terms of his personal life, however.
