These articles are very dubious to me. I’m sure any number of diseases can be the next pandemic. Could it be yellow fever? Sure. Could it be bird flu? Sure. Could it be Ebola? Yeah. The issue comes with the fact any pandemic is about probability. The media likes to scare us into clicking their content with scary headlines but that’s not going to garner any public trust… it’s just going to cause a “boy who cried wolf” situation. In science, the medical community is simply trying to observe this widespread probabilistic event happen in real time. The medical community needs to have a lot of observation to do this which is also VERY expensive and requires as many people to report as possible. This isn’t going to be aided by making people lose faith when every article claims to know what the next horrific disease will be. Because at the end of the day, we don’t. We’re just trying to get ahead of one actually occurring.
I don’t see why it’s bad. Me and a lot of other fellow scholars of distinguished taste have “yellow fever”. I don’t see how this could possibly be worse than COVID, especially considering the declining birth rates. I think these scientists are just being discriminatory and elitist. Just my 2 yen.
The big difference between covid and yellow fever:
There has been a yellow-fever vaccine for many years that gives you life-long protection with one shot. It took us nearly 2 years to develop a covid vaccine and even longer to have enough to supply them to everyone in the world.
So yeah, no. I call clickbaity nonsense..
It’s hard to imagine that a disease which already has a vaccine is going to spread like Covid-19 did. That was the biggest problem with Covid-19. It spread like wildfire before a vaccine could be developed and deployed.
