Or how about we legalise sex work and do it in a similar way to ,I think its, Denmark ?
Why are people still wasting their time with this self-righteous nonsense.
I thought it was illegal to buy already?
>“Ending prostitution is essential to achieving true equality between the sexes. A society that allows women’s bodies to be bought and sold cannot claim to value them as equals.”
Excuse me? The bodies belong to the women, not fucking society. If they have made a choice (obviously without coercion) to sell them, that’s their choice to make.
The main coercive factor when it comes to sex work is poverty.
Lift women out of poverty by improving social security, and you will see fewer people doing sex work, and those that do still choose to do it will be able to keep themselves safer.
If the government can’t make money from it , that shit gets outlawed .
“Sex work” a term used by pimps to justify their job and middle class people as an excuse for using working class people for sex.
Middle class people should suggest “sex work” to their kids as a valid career choice otherwise they should shut the fuck up.
It’s prostitution not sex work.
I don’t see why it’s illegal and making pornography is legal. Off the top of my head *”Safeguarding vulnerable women”* will be their justification, but if it was legal, that would be so much more easily done with venue door stewards, drug and std tests, etc.
Until then, there’s a glaringly obvious loophole.
The only difference between prostitution and pornography is the camera. No-one says you need to see anyone’s identity in any film created, genres like hidden camera, voyeur etc make this an easy work around.
Like almost all forms of prohibition, if there is a market for it people will find a way to both produce and consume it.
It is far safer for everyone if prostitution were to be legalised and regulated and made as transparent as it really can be, rather than pushing it off to the backstreets patting ourselves on the back saying “look we saved the women from letting women use their bodies as they wish” and letting the scene be run by human traffickers and gangs.
Also male prostitutes exist, and gay women exist. Its not just straight men using women’s bodies for their own enjoyment A good portion will be. But the lgbt community is generally far more likely to be involved in sex work than the general population.
Ash Regan seems to push a nonsense bill along these lines annually. She needs to get in the sea. Sex work is work. Sex workers want full decrim. This only puts sex workers in danger.
Less creeps paying, less incentive for other men to abuse and trap women into this “lifestyle”.
I know, all you John’s are just Knights, saving poor damsels.
SNP on another useless f*ing crusade. It’s the oldest profession in the world. I’m 100% in favour of throwing the book at sex traffickers. But if a person wants to earn money selling sex and they’re over 18 we should just legalise the whole damn thing get it licensed, medical care and set up in areas people know about and can go to or stay away from.
Nordic model has caused assaults and deaths of sex workers to go up everywhere it has been tried. Decriminalisation is the only way to go
If anyone is not sure why this is so dangerous for SWers:
Imagine you have an ice cream shop. One day the government tells you the only people allowed to buy ice cream from your shop are going to be criminals.
What do you think is then going to happen to your shop???
Decriminalisation is the only thing which will protect SWers from abuse, anything less just makes them increasingly vulnerable.
This is like fighting homelessness by putting another arm rest on a bench to stop people lying down. You’re wasting time and money on a plaster on a gaping wound. Sex work will go down if poverty goes down. If people are able to support themselves without sex work and still choose to do it then I don’t see a problem. If it’s becoming a problem then it’s caused by another deeper issue.
What about LGBTQ+ sex workers. Many men sell sex too. The bill is very focussed on women with no mention of any other members of society. When will politicians realise that criminalising isn’t really an effective solution to complex social problems.
