“Besar” in Hungarian means “shits one’s pants”. Just saying in case some Bessarabians ever think to make one of those Hungary-hungry jokes.
Please forgive my Western European ignorance but I must confess that I always thought Bessarabia was more, well, Arabic, probably somewhere near Iran though to be honest the few times I’ve heard the name I haven’t given much thought as to where it might actually be. Apologies to any Bessarabians reading but in my mind it’s almost in the same category as Ruritania.
