  1. so, it is true, if you use it long enough you can eventually complete Reddit and start again

  2. Jay Sean should either be Harrow or Hounslow, so I demand a recount for Brent

  3. East London is wonderful when you like rap and metal

  4. Not being a hater (honest) but I don’t think this is correct. I remember seeing this map years ago and even then thinking that it couldn’t be true because there are certain big contenders who are strangely missing from this.

    * Croydon has ‘The Damned’ as the top-selling artist (as Captain Sensible was born and raised in South Norwood) but Stormzy (who was born in Thornton Heath and raised in South Norwood) has outsold The Damned greatly.
    * Newham has Linda Lewis but, when you search online, Iron Maiden (who formed in a pub in Maryland near Stratford) sold millions more albums. You might say, ‘Well, the map is based on where people are born, not where they were raised’ in which case…
    * Even though she was raised in Lambeth (‘*Hometown Glory*’ is about West Norwood, big up Sarf Lundun), Adele was born in Tottenham – and she has *absolutely* outsold The Kinks.

Again, not being a hater, just a neek who loves my city and all the amazing people that have come out of it. 🙂

  5. Hackney hasn’t ever done better than Prof Green?!

  6. I’m kind of surprised not to see Adele there. Wikipedia says she’s from Tottenham which would be where The Kinks currently are…

  7. I don’t think a single member of Led Zeppelin was from London.

Plant and Bonham were from The Midlands whilst Page and John Paul Jones were born in the home counties. The latter two loved in London or went to school in London later in their youth, but not where they are shown on this map.

  8. The poorer, bigger boroughs get their representatives in a huge font. Social justice!

  9. It’s just made up clickbait isn’t it. The Pistols, Stones, Siouxie and the Who all in the wrong boroughs, then I gave up.

  10. Can we at least replace Coldplay with Spandau Ballet?

  11. This is all crap. Where’s Jessie J? She’s from Redbridge.

  12. Shame modern London artists don’t measure up.

Lots of dross coming out from there these days

  13. Kate Bush was from Bexley and IIRC shifted a few albums and singles in her time. Led Zeppelin may have been formed in London but Messrs Plant and Bonham came from the Midlands , Jimmy Page was born in West London and John Paul Jones was born in Sidcup which is in the Borough of Bexley apart from that Led Zeppelin have no connection to the borough.

  14. The one thing that initially gives away that this is bollocks: why shouldn’t one artist be on the top notch in more than one borough?

  15. Pretty certain David Bowie lived in Beckenham (Bromley) during his earlier, biggest selling albums. By the time his later, best ofs, and all other records were racking up the numbers, he was far, far away from Brixton (where he only loved until he was 6).

If this is recorded by where they were born, Billy Idol wasn’t born in Bromley either!
