Hi everyone, I’m planning to move to Denmark for 3 months to try and look for a job.

I have a master’s degree in architecture and I have already submitted a request to the Ministry of Hiugher Education and Science of Denmark to get an evaluation for my education, I should receive it within the next month.

I currently don’t have a job but I am lucky enough that my family offered to economically support my first 3 months in Denmark to get me kickstarted.

I know it will be nearly impossible to be an architect in Denmark since I don’t speak danish (started learning the basics) and it’s the kind of job that requires highly skilled individuals and I am sure there are thousands of danish architecs ahead of me for that, but I am not picky about job offers, anything will do at the start to fund a prolonged stay.

On [https://www.nyidanmark.dk/](https://www.nyidanmark.dk/) I looked into residence and work permits and apparently

” As an EU citizen, you may freely enter Denmark.

If you plan on remaining in Denmark for less than three months, you do not need to apply for an EU residence document. If you are seeking employment, you may remain in Denmark for up to six months before obtaining a residence document.

If you plan on being in Denmark for longer than three months, or six months if you will be seeking employment, you need to apply for an EU residence document”.

I do know that if I plan to stay for more than 3 months I need to apply to receive a CPR number but I also know that to get a job I will most likely need a danish bank account, which in order requires a CPR number to get, so I am a bit confused regarding these steps.

Also, when they say “if you are seeking employment, you may remain in Denmark for up to six months before obtaining a residence document” I imagine I’d have to prove that I am actively looking for a job, how would I do that exactly?

Despite the “free to stay up to 3 months” thing for EU citizens, do I need to register anywhere once I get to Denmark?

\*If\* I find a job, I will need to apply on [https://www.nyidanmark.dk/](https://www.nyidanmark.dk/) for a Work Permit that meets my current situation, is that correct?

I have some danish friends so that will hopefully alleviate any sort of culture shock situation 🙂

Thanks for reading through this wall of text, any sort of advice will be appreciated!

  1. To get paid in Denmark, your income must for tax purposes be deposited in a Danish bank account.

To open a bank account, you need a CPR number.

To get a CPR number, you must have residence in Denmark.

You prove residence by getting a rental contract for at least 2 months (as I remember) and possibly get a letter from the person you rent from stating you really live in the apartment. I had to do that when I rented out to a room to a Spanish guy moving to Denmark. Ask Borgerservice in the city what their requirements are. They may also answer your other questions. You can find the local Borgerservice (citizen service) phone number at the city website, or just google ‘Borgerservice Aarhus’ for example. I am sure they speak English as well.
