>The Hungarian Parliament has voted to withdraw from the International Criminal Court (ICC). The government’s proposal was supported by 134 members of parliament.
>The government announced its intention to initiate the withdrawal from the ICC on April 3rd. The timing was no coincidence, as that very day Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu arrived in Budapest — against whom the ICC had issued an international arrest warrant. The Court aims to hold Netanyahu and his former defense minister, dismissed last November, accountable for alleged attacks, starvation, and killing of civilians.
>In November last year, Viktor Orbán firmly rejected the ICC’s decision and invited the Israeli prime minister for an official visit the very same day. The Hungarian Prime Minister also called the ICC’s move an “outrageously cheeky” and “cynical decision,” claiming it interfered in an ongoing conflict for political purposes.
It’s interesting to see how the right wing is once more on the wrong side of history.
Sickening, but not surprising.
let me guess, all of them are from MHM, Fidesz, and KDNP
That one trick that prevents you from judging your boss.
Ban the veto for Hungary in EU
I don’t have sympathy for Orban but this is good. The ICC’s legitimacy is no more and no less than that of a high school classroom government. They had a sweet deal: be afforded a veneer of legitimacy, sentence a Serbian general or a Liberian warlord or two every once in a while. They just had to ruin it like how Walt ruined his sweet deal with Gus.
Benjamin Netanyahu will die as an old man in a warm bed in his house. The ICC and Europe in general should just internalize this fact.
When our parliament votes it is basically decided by a close cult controlled by fidesz elites.
Always interesting to see how the right and left, (or rather the Eurocratic centrists). The Western world and the Russian world, still unite over the Israeli cause
Makes things easy for when they go full-facist.
Fidesz = Hungarian Putin Party🤮🤮🤮🤮
Hungarians will have a lot of explaining to do in the coming decades with regards to electing Orban
It should necessary for an EU member to be part of the International Criminal Court.
And guys, this won’t be the biggest scandal of the week. They are about to vote a bill that will enforce Orbén & Co to outright ban and dismantle any press, civilian organization, or institute they see fit. Bye-bye free elections in 2026, they likely won’t even let the Tisza Party to run.
when will this bastard be removed from the planet. Orban and hes bitvh Putin.
Non vi stupite se questa estate vedrete Netanyahu in vacanza sul Balaton …
Any country that leaves the ICC should be expelled from the EU.
Want to form your own genocidal group with i$rael? Go ahead, no one will miss you….
If Hungary were assessed these days would they still meet the Copenhagen Criteria? Feels like if a country fails to meet them (after initially doing so) they should be booted.
Saying that the pairlament voted this is a but misleading. They technically did the rounds yes, but make no mistake, this is not a democracy, it wasn’t before, sure as hell its not now, What Orbán says, goes.
Get them out of the eu as well.
Putin will visit Budapest, in a show of support for Orban for the next elections. You heard it here first
I keep seeing right-wing politicians leave or express desire to leave international organizations (the United States leaving the World Health Organization and the United Nations Human Rights Council, and now Hungary leaving the International Criminal Court, along the dozens upon dozens of right-wing politicians in European Union member states that call for leaving it, including the United Kingdom which already did so years ago.), and while I understand that nuance and context are needed and that these situations aren’t similar enough to call for panic, I can’t help but remember reading about when Germany, Italy, and Japan withdrew from the League of Nations.
I can’t imagine the level of stress the average Hungarian is under. Living like this, with a government like this….
Let me guess, they are up to no good, are they?
“Time for crime boys!” *Rubs hand together menacingly*
