Virginia has the largest data center market in the world but imports more energy than any other state. A bill to increase energy storage buildout was unanimously passed by the Senate, but then vetoed by the governor.

  1. Guess the legislature needs to override that veto.

What a dumb bit of grand standing. What else can you expect from a Republican?

  2. What’s the thought process, if any, around such decisions? Such performative politics for no other reason but to keep the majority of uninformed/ill-informed/ignorant voter happy.

  3. > “The Virginia Clean Economy Act (VCEA) is failing Virginians,” the governor said in a statement. “Adding in requirements for the petitioning of additional storage technologies will not change the fact that the law is misguided and does not work. Long-duration energy storage is an expensive technology and if utilities believed it to be the best technology to meet demand, they would be actively seeking permission to build them.”

Such a weasly little shit. Hopefully Virginia never gives Republican governors a chance again.

  4. I thought batteries were big money makers for utilities? Balancing the load or frequency…

I would expect utilities to pressure the gov on this also.

  5. Article says the bill passed the Senate unanimously. Does Virgina not have the 2/3rds majority veto override?

  6. Is this so he can suck Trumps little mushroom weenie? It makes no sense to me

  7. I just don’t understand how any of this is the the government’s job. Energy storage is among the easiest things for private investors to build out and own – why does this require state support?

  8. Get rid of fossil fuel power plants by legislation. What a joke if it wasn’t idiotic.
