  1. Here in Portugal, those below the poverty line get 60 EUR from the government to tackle rising prices, 20 EUR per child below 5, 20 EUR from another scheme whose name I have forgotten now and some electricity bill benefits also…..per month

  3. Flawed premise. Inflation is even higher in most of the EU. And not just the poor countries. Even Germany has higher inflation than the UK. The one notable exception is France, where inflation has been kept largely at bay through price regulation. But that can only work for so long.
