  1. Scottish Greens 🤝 Opposing building literally anything

  2. Calling a council planning department experts in anything is a hell of a stretch. As someone with the unfortunate task of interacting with them regularly I quite often find myself doubting their ability to read.

  3. Why do they keep calling it Flamingo Land, even though that’s nothing to do with the development?

  4. At least put all of his quote:

    >Ministers WILL NOT intervene to stop Flamingo Land’s destructive Loch Lomond mega-resort.
    >But @scotgov was happy to intervene in 2008 when it helped Donald Trump trash the dunes at Menie to build a golf course.
    >Standing up for American billionaires, but not for Scotland

Can’t argue with any of that. He is spot on the money and is entirely factual with those statements.

  5. MSP Ross Greer on Loch Lomond Flamingo Land resort: “Jobs and investment should be for Glasgow and Edinburgh only.”

  6. Was said on another thread but the road between Luss and Balloch is a fucking nightmare, even on a good day. There’s too much traffic from various things hitting that roundabout at the dual carriageway and this is just adding to it.

  7. The biggest NIMBY of the biggest NIMBY party. It’s a resort in Balloch, next to Loch Lomond shores. It’s not some unspoilt natural beauty spot.

  8. Vote Green.

Scottish Greens are absolutely on the right side of things.

  9. From what I’ve seen, it doesn’t seem to be the locals that are mad about this being built as it’s on derelict land and not actually a theme park?

Not sure what to believe on this issue as I don’t live there and I’m not sure how many people I see arguing against it are from there either.

  10. I WANT FLAMINGOS! 🦩 Ross Greer is a bore that stamps on everything fun in this world.

  11. The traffic can’t cope there at the best of times. Never mind the busiest times of the year. Unless they completely dual carriageway it up to the Helensburgh roundabout, locals are going to be completely fucked in trying to get about.

Jobs aren’t really going to be high quality, as promised. They’re going to be fighting for the same staff that are employed elsewhere, like Cameron House, Luss Estates, HMNB Faslane, and the like. They’re going to have to overpay to get the staff they need (no bad thing there tbh) but the pool of potential staff is limited.

There is also the serious flood risk for the Leven, which still hasn’t been dealt with, according to SEPA, and would cause problems all the way down to the river outflow in Dumbarton.

I think, with the above, going ahead will be a bad idea. Not to mention £40m for development is seriously undervaluing 43 acres. As an example, Lomond Bank in Balmaha, with Loch Lomond views, is valued at around £1.25m and sits in the vicinity and has about an acre of land.
Comparatively, the purchase should be a minimum of £50m

As a business, the math isn’t mathing that well and it’s difficult to see how this development will even turn a profit.

  12. Cowards man! Loch Lomond will be ruined 😡 they had a chance to step in and tell them to go take a huge fuck to themselves.

  13. I didn’t know anything about this, so I have just went and looked at the proposal.

Its a Holiday Park being built in an area which is extremely tourist focused (where Sea Life is). The area they will develop is not natural countryside, its a park inside Balloch that was already used for Tourism.

1/3rd of the area is a bloody Car Park right now… lol. The idea of destruction of Loch Lomond is a bit of an overreaction.

This is investment in Scotland. Why are we against that?

I could understand if someone wanted a line of Roller Coasters and LED lights up the side of Loch Lomond, but this is inside the Balloch area. It looks like a Centre Parks forest park, its jobs for the local area.

The main concern should be wither the surrounding Road network can take the strain. The roundabout at Balloch and the Dual road past Dumbarton are already nightmares on sunny holiday weekends.

  14. Is the worry that the next president of the United States will be a flamingo?

  15. Lots of opposing opinions. The truth is probably somewhere in the middle.

The plans might bring more jobs but the already creaking infrastructure need major redevelopment to allow for the increased visitor numbers. Especially as has been said the road between balloch and Luss which is already a disaster. Health services too would struggle – Vale of leven not set up for this at all.

If the supposed economic gain could be reinvested then great but that probably won’t happen will it.

  16. Good on Ross Greer, he is less accurate than a stuck clock.

He’s been right precisely 3 times in 10 years, and every time, about this. Nobody wants this.

  17. Let’s just destroy the natural beauty which cannot be replicated which draws people in their millions to build an amusement park that draws people who think anything that’s not a motorway is an inconvenience.

I’m legitimately sickened, this theme park could have been on the outskirts of Cambuslang for all the difference it would make.

  18. Can the government not just make improving infrastructure part of any deal? So that way roads are improved at the same time as the park is being built or is that too much to ask?

  19. This narrative of “Flamingo Land” needs to stop. It’s not another flamingo land. The company owns flamingo land.

All other comments, opinions, critisisims, requirements etc. should absolutely be heard, but it’s disingenuous for it to be continually framed as such.

In my opinion: there’s too little investment in Scotland that will help to drive more tourism and jobs. We have a tremendous amount of beautiful country work with. It just has to be done right – suitable infrastructure/service, and without spoiling the natural beauty.

  20. Greer’s continued presence in the Scottish parliament shames us all. Is this really the best we can do?

  21. Ross Greer is an utter bellend. Get it right up him.

  22. Has he ever been to Flamingo Land? It’s fuckin class.

  23. He is a lightweight irritant. Anyone wanting PR needs to realise it produces things like Ross Greer
