Proposals to make it easier for British nationals to have their qualifications recognised in the European Union could significantly improve Luxembourg’s appeal for top talent, the country’s business lobby and recruiters have said.

A draft legislation currently being developed by Brussels would establish a unified EU framework for recognising professional and academic qualifications from outside the bloc, according to a document obtained by the Financial Times in May.

British professionals, including lawyers, engineers, and financial specialists, have been lobbying for easier access to work in the EU market since the UK left the bloc in 2020. UK Chancellor Rachel Reeves has made the removal of post-Brexit trade barriers a key priority, framing closer ties with Europe as essential to boosting the UK’s economic growth.

Darren Robinson, managing partner at Anderson Wise, a Luxembourg-based executive recruitment firm, said the proposed EU reforms could significantly improve the Grand Duchy’s attractiveness.
