Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met with UN Secretary-General António Guterres at the United Nations headquarters in New York on Tuesday.
During their meeting, they discussed Greece’s priorities for its upcoming term on the UN Security Council (2025–2026), along with key international and regional developments.
Mitsotakis welcomed the secretary-general’s ongoing efforts to restart negotiations on the Cyprus issue and expressed his support for the reappointment of María Ángela Holguín Cuéllar as Guterres’s personal envoy for the matter.
The two also addressed the situation in Gaza, as well as recent developments in Syria and Lebanon.
The Prime Minister stressed the urgent need for a ceasefire in Gaza, the protection of civilians, and the importance of taking concrete initiatives to support peace in the region.
